The Toledo Rockets won’t have to travel too far on Wednesday evening to face the Bowling Green Falcons. Toledo is 4-5 on the season and 2-3 in the MAC after losing by three against Eastern Michigan Eagles last week. Bowling Green is 3-6 on the year and 1-4 in MAC play with their first win coming last time out against Buffalo.
In their last game, Toledo lost as a 9 point favorite. Offensively the Rockets average 30.8 points and 411.9 yards per game overall. This loss could be attributed to the changes under center. Freshman Dequan Finn took over the passing responsibilities for Carter Bradley. The Freshman, Finn has completed 82 of 147 of his passes for 1,185 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception while adding 348 yards and six scores on the ground.
The Rockets defense uncharacteristically struggled and is now allowing opponents to put up 22 points and 344.9 yards per game for the season. They are giving up 200.3 yards a game through the air in comparison to the 239 passing yards that the Falcons average.
Before last week, the Bowling Green Falcons hadn’t won a conference game in almost two years. Last week, they were able to light up Buffalo scoring 56 points in their upset of the Bulls.
Through the air, Senior Matt McDonald has been solid. He has completed 61% of his passes but his 10 touchdowns are shadowed by his 7 interceptions. The defense is 103rd in the country allowing 33.1 points per game.
Toledo is slightly above .500 against the spread at 5-4, although it has failed to cover in three of the last four games. Despite the overall struggles, Bowling Green has been a great bet against the spread with a record of 7-2.
The Rockets are 5-17 ATS in their last 22 games following a bye week. The Falcons will have momentum after getting their first MAC win. The Underdog is 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings. I’ll take a shot with Bowling Green to keep this game within a 10 as they have the more experienced QB position.
