The USC Trojans will travel to Sun Devil Stadium to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils this Saturday night in College Football action.
The USC Trojans snapped their 2-game losing streak and improved to 4-4 on the season after defeating the Arizona Wildcats, 41-34, this past Saturday. USC had more of a battle than they expected against the winless Wildcats, however, USC was able to pull away later for the victory after a 40-yard FG by Alex Stadthaus gave USC a 41-31 lead with 3:19 left in regulation. USC outgained Arizona by a 547-466 margin and forced 1 turnover in the victory. Leading the way for the Trojans was RB Keaontay Ingram who rushed for 204 yards & 1 TD on 27 carries.
On the season, USC is averaging 31.3 ppg on 458.0 total yards per game (315.3 passing yds/g; 142.8 rushing yds/g). Offensively, USC has been led by WR Drake London who has 88 receptions for 1084 yards & 7 TD. QB Kedon Slovis has completed 65.8% of his passes for 2022 yards, 11 TD, & 7 INT, however, was replaced by Jaxson Dart late in the game who completed 12 of 18 passes for 109 yards & 2 TD. The top receiving threats for the Trojans outside of Drake London have been Tahj Washington (32 rec, 396 yards, TD) & Gray Bryant Jr. (24 rec, 298 yards, 5 TD). Leading the way for the USC backfield has been the duo of Keaontay Ingram (125 att, 761 yards, 5 TD) & Vavae Malepeai (61 att, 239 yards, 2 TD).
Defensively, USC is allowing their opponents to average 28.6 ppg on 392.8 total yards per game (244.4 passing yds/g; 148.4 rushing yds/g).
The Arizona State Sun Devils lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 5-3 on the season after being defeated by the Washington State Cougars, 34-21, this past Saturday. Arizona State struggled with turnovers against the Washington State defense and could not fight back after going into halftime trailing by 28-7 margin. Arizona State outgained Washington State by a 406-400 margin, however, lost the turnover battle by a 5-1 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Sun Devils was RB DeaMonte Trayanum who had 89 rushing yards & 1 TD on 19 carries.
On the season, Arizona State is averaging 30.3 ppg on 429.4 total yards per game (235.5 passing yds/g; 193.9 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Arizona State has been led by QB Jayden Daniels who has completed 68.5% of his passes for 1734 yards, 7 TD & 5 INT while also rushing for 432 yards & 9 TD. In the backfield with Daniels has been the duo of Rachaad White (86 att, 483 yards, 9 TD; 27 rec, 251 yards, TD) & DeaMonte Trayanum (60 att, 304 yards, 4 TD). Rachaad White missed last week’s game against Washington State, however, is currently probable for this matchup. The top receiving threats for the Sun Devils have been Ricky Pearsall (31 rec, 378 yards, 2 TD), LV Bunkley-Shelton (24 rec, 354 yards, 2 TD), & Curtis Hodges (17 rec, 344 yards, TD).
Defensviely, Arizona State is holding their opponents to an average of 20.8 ppg on 331.1 total yards per game (196.1 passing yds/g; 135.0 rushing yds/g).
The Trojans are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games as a road underdog and 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game. The Sun Devils are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a double-digit loss at home and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 conference games.
Arizona State is coming off arguably their worst performance of the season in a 34-21 loss at home against Washington State, however, I’m expecting the Sun Devils, who should have Rachaad White back in the lineup, to bounce back with a big win here. USC has been solid offensively this season, however, this is a team that has really struggled defensively, allowing opponents to average 35.7 ppg over their last three games, and certainly doesn’t give us a lot of confidence with just a 7-point win over Arizona last week. Arizona State should have no trouble putting up plenty of points in this one and as I expect the USC to continue to struggle, I’m taking the Sun Devils to cover this home spread. Good Luck!
