The Tennessee Volunteers and Kentucky Wildcats face off on Saturday in an SEC college football showdown at Kroger Field. When these two teams faced off in 2020, Kentucky came away with the 34-7 victory.
The Tennessee Volunteers got out to a fast start to the season but they have fallen off and they sit with a 4-4 record. In the last game against Alabama, they scored 24 points, but the defense gave up 52 points and that led to the loss. Tennessee is averaging 37.4 points per game while the defense is giving up 26.5 points per game. Under center for Tennessee is Hendon Hooker and he has thrown for 1,578 yards, 17 touchdowns, and two interceptions. In this game, Tennessee needs the defense to be better or this will be a long game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Kentucky Wildcats who sit with a 6-2 record overall and the two losses have come in their last two games. In the last game against Mississippi State the offense could only manage 17 points, and they need the defense to be a whole lot better. Kentucky is averaging 27 points while the defense is giving up 20.8 points per game. Under center for Kentucky is Will Levis and he has thrown for 1,476 yards, 14 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Running back Chris Rodriguez Jr has also had a big year rushing for 809 yards and five touchdowns. Tennessee is 4-9 against the spread in their last 13 conference games. Kentucky is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall. The road team is 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings. Tennessee is 4-0 against the spread in their last four games in Lexington.
I trust Tennessee’s offense and even on the road, they are going to find success. Kentucky’s defense has shown holes, and they are going to struggle again in this game. Look for Tennessee to score at least 28 points and that will be enough for the Volunteers to cover the spread
