The Utah Utes will travel to Stanford Stadium to take on the Stanford Cardinal this Friday night in College Football action.
The Utah Utes improved to 5-3 on the season after defeating the UCLA Bruins, 44-24, this past Saturday. Utah was outstanding on the offensive end against the UCLA defense and had no trouble pulling away for the victory after a 12-yard TD run by Cameron Rising gave the Utes a 35-17 lead with 14:55 left in the 4th quarter. Utah outgained UCLA by a 469-411 margin and won the turnover battle by a 1-0 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Utes was RB Tavion Thomas who had 160 rushing yards & 4 TD on 24 carries.
On the season, Utah is averaging 33.4 ppg on 416.5 total yards per game (225.3 passing yds/g; 191.3 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Utah has been led by RB Tavion Thomas who has 565 rushing yards & 10 TD on 102 carries. QB Cameron Rising has completed 64.1% of his passes for 1318 yards, 12 TD, & 2 INT while also rushing for 300 yards & 3 TD on 38 carries. The top receiving threats for the Utes have been Dalton Kincaid (21 rec, 312 yards, 4 TD), Brant Kuithe (31 rec, 304 yards, 4 TD), Devaughn Vele (15 rec, 287 yards, TD), & Britain Covey (31 rec, 237 yards, TD).
Defensively, Utah is allowing their opponents to average 25.3 ppg on 371.6 total yards per game (220.6 passing yds/g; 151.0 rushing yds/g).
The Stanford Cardinal lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 3-5 on the season after being defeated by the Washington Huskies, 20-13, this past Saturday. Stanford kept the game close despite struggling on the offensive end, however, the Cardinal allowed Washington to pull off the victory after the Huskies scored a game-winning TD on a 20-yard reception by Jalen McMillian with just :21 seconds left in the 4th quarter. Stanford was outgained by Washington by a 375-265 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 3-0 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Cardinal was WR Benjamin Yurosek who had 9 receptions for 93 yards.
On the season, Stanford is averaging 24.9 ppg on 340.9 total yards per game (249.0 passing yds/g; 91.9 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Stanford has been led by QB Tanner McKee who has completed 64.8% of his passes for 1916 yards, 14 TD, & 5 INT. The top receiving threats for the Cardinal have been Elijah Higgins (38 rec, 447 yards, 4 TD), Benjamin Yurosek (27 rec, 438 yards, TD), John Humphreys (17 rec, 252 yards, TD), & Brycen Tremayne (19 rec, 240 yards, 5 TD). Both Humphreys & Tremayne has been out recently due to injuries and are both questionable this week. Leading the way for the Cardinal backfield has been the duo of Nathaniel Peat (63 att, 346 yards, 2 TD) & Austin Jones (69 att, 246 yards; 26 rec, 240 yards, TD).
Defensively, Stanford is allowing their opponents to average 27.0 ppg on 401.6 total yards per game (195.6 passing yds/g; 206.0 rushing yds/g).
The Utes are 6-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record, however, are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games as a road favorite. The Cardinal are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 Friday games and 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games as a home underdog.
Utah has looked great since putting in Cameron Rising at QB and is no question the better team in this matchup, however, I’m not sure I love the Utes at this number as Utah is just 1-3 on the road this season. Stanford has not looked great in their last three games, however, this is still a team that beat Oregon at home earlier this season and has a passing offense that can do some against a Utah defense that allowed Oregon State to recently put up 42 points on 468 total yards in their last away game. Stanford needs a win in this one of they are going to have any shot to make a Bowl Game this season and as I think they come out motivated at home in this one and the defense gives Utah some issues, I think the Cardinal do enough with the points to cover. Good Luck!
