The Washington State Cougars will travel to Sun Devil Stadium to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Washington State Cougars had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 4-4 on the season after being defeated by the BYU Cougars, 21-19, this past Saturday. Washington State gave BYU all they could handle, however, their game-tying two-point conversation with 4:14 left failed and the Washington State defense could not get a stop in the ensuing possession which allowed BYU to run out the clock. Washington State was outgained by BYU by a 385-350 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 1-0 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Cougars was RB Max Borghi who had 83 rushing yards & 3 TD on 18 carries.
On the season, Washington State is averaging 24.9 ppg on 371.3 total yards per game (262.5 passing yds/g; 108.8 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Washington State has been led by QB Jayden de Laura who has completed 63.8% of his passes for 1724 yards, 15 TD, & 6 INT. The top receiving threats for the Cougars have been Calvin Jackson Jr. (41 rec, 519 yards, 4 TD), Travell Harris (51 rec, 506 yards, 5 TD), De’Zhaun Stribling (27 rec, 321 yards, 3 TD), & Lincoln Victor (17 rec, 202 yards, TD). Leading the way for the Washington State backfield has been Max Borghi who has 504 rushing yards & 8 TD on 100 carries.
Defensively, Washington State is allowing their opponents to average 25.1 ppg on 391.0 total yards per game (225.4 passing yds/g; 165.6 rushing yds/g).
The Arizona State Sun Devils had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 5-2 on the season after being defeated by the Utah Utes, 35-21, on October 16th. Arizona State led by a 21-7 margin at halftime, however, the Sun Devils had no answers for the Utes on either end of the field in the 2nd half and could not fight back after Utah took a 28-21 lead early in the 4th quarter on a Brant Kuithe 7-yard TD reception. Arizona State won the turnover battle by a 2-1 margin, however, was outgained by Utah by a 455-385 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Sun Devils was QB Jayden Daniels who completed 20 of 31 passes for 237 yards, 237 yards, & 2 TD while also rushing for a TD.
On the season, Arizona State is averaging 31.6 ppg on 432.7 total yards per game (229.9 passing yds/g; 202.9 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Arizona State has been led by QB Jayden Daniels who has completed 69.0% of his passes for 1506 yards, 6 TD, & 3 INT while also rushing for 401 yards & 4 TD. The top receiving threats for the Sun Devils have been Curtis Hodges (16 rec, 330 yards, 1 TD), LV Bunkley-Shelton (20 rec, 302 yards, 1 TD), & Ricky Pearsall (22 rec, 295 yards, 2 TD). Leading the way for the Sun Devils backfield has been Rachaad White who has 483 rushing yards & 9 TD on 86 carries while also hauling in 27 receptions for 251 yards & 1 TD.
Defensively, Arizona State is holding their opponents to an average of 18.9 ppg on 321.3 total yards per game (190.7 passing yds/g; 130.6 rushing yds/g).
The Cougars are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 18-6 ATS in their last 24 October games. The Sun Devils are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 conference games.
Arizona State can be inconsistent at times, however, there is no doubting that the Sun Devils are a talented team and the good news for Arizona State is that they have been dominant at home, posting a perfect 4-0 record with those wins being by an average of 22.8 ppg. Washington State has been solid this season, however, this is the first road game since the dismissal of Nick Rolovich and as I think the Sun Devils will be able to shutdown down a Cougars offense that ranks just 78th in total offense, I think Arizona State wins this one by three TD’s and covers this large home spread. Good Luck!
