Virginia Tech faces Georgia Tech on Saturday, October 30th, at Bobby Dodd Stadium for a Week 9 ACC college football matchup.
Virginia Tech is coming off a 41-36 loss to Syracuse at home in its last game. It was the fourth straight home game for Virginia Tech and the third straight loss for the Hokies as well. Virginia Tech has struggled offensively this season, only scoring 24 points per game and earning 330 total yards of offense per contest as well. Virginia Tech has only eclipsed 200 passing yards twice this season, and one of those games was against the FCS' Richmond. Virginia Tech has relied on its strong defense this season, but that defense was nowhere to be found against Cuse last week. Virginia Tech allows 382 total yards per game and 23 points per game, but a whopping 550 total yards were allowed to the Orange in last week's loss.
Georgia Tech is coming off a 48-40 loss to Virginia last week on the road. Georgia Tech's defense was torched for over 630 yards in that loss, with 240 of those coming on the ground (8 yards per attempt). In the past four weeks, Georgia Tech has allowed an average of 519 total yards per game and 37 points per game. Offensively, Georgia Tech has been able to run the football all season long. The Yellow Jackets are earning 183 rushing yards per game and 4.7 yards per carry. Georgia Tech's leading rusher this year has been Jahmyr Gibbs, who has earned 411 rushing yards on 90 attempts and two rushing touchdowns.
The last time these two teams faced each other, Virginia Tech blew Georgia Tech out of the building in a 45-0 blowout at Georgia Tech. Before that loss, Georgia Tech had won the previous three matchups.
Georgia Tech is a 4.5-point favorite and the total is set at 55.5. I am not in love with laying 4.5 points with a team that has struggled mightily on the defensive side, but Virginia Tech's offense has not impressed me this year and on the road, this is not the best spot for Va Tech either. Road teams have dominated this series against the spread but I think the home team in Georgia Tech takes this one.
Ron’s Pick Georgia Tech -4.5
