The Texas Tech Red Raiders and Oklahoma Sooners face off on Saturday in a Big 12 conference college football showdown at OU Memorial Stadium. When these two teams faced off in October of 2020, Oklahoma came away with the 62-28 victory.
Texas Tech currently sits with a 5-3 record overall but they still decided to move on from head coach Matt Wells earlier this season. In the last game against Kansas State, Texas Tech jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter, but the offense could only manage ten points of the rest of the game. The Red Raiders didn’t score at all in the second half. Texas Tech is averaging 34.3 points while the defense is giving up 30.6 points. Under center for Texas Tech is Henry Colombi and he has thrown for 1,214 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions.
On the other side of this matchup is the Oklahoma Sooners who sit with an 8-0 record overall but they almost lost to a terrible Kansas team, in the last game. It took Oklahoma outscoring Kansas 21-6 in the 4th quarter to squeak out the victory. Oklahoma is averaging 41.8 points while the defense is giving up 24.6 points. Caleb Williams has run with the starting job and not looked back after taking over for Spencer Rattler. Williams has thrown for 787 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception. Running back Kennedy Brooks has had a strong season rushing for 787 yards and nine touchdowns.
Texas Tech is 4-1 against the spread in the last five games. Oklahoma is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games in October. The over is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Oklahoma. Texas Tech is 0-4 against the spread in their last four meetings in Oklahoma.
When these two teams have faced off, the over has been the play, and I expect there will be plenty of scoring by both teams in this game. Look for Oklahoma to start the scoring early, and their defense will have a hard time slowing down the Red Raiders offense. Back the over to cash with ease.
