The Texas State Bobcats and Louisiana Ragin Cajuns face off on Saturday in a Sun Belt showdown at Cajun Field. When these two teams faced off in 2020, it was Louisiana that came away with the 44-34 victory.
The Texas State Bobcats have really struggled to start the season sitting with a 2-5 record overall and they have lost two games in a row. In the last game against Georgia State, the offense could only manage 16 points, and that led to the defeat. Overall this season Texas State is averaging 25 points while the defense is giving up 33.9 points. Texas State is led by Brady McBride who has thrown for 1,507 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Running back Calvin HIll has also rushed for 385 yards. If Texas State wants a chance to win this game it’s going to need to be the offense that is better, or this could be a long game.
On the other side of this matchup is Louisiana who sits with a 6-1 record overall. In the last game against Arkansas State, it was a lot closer than they probably hoped, but they were able to pull out the one point victory late. Louisiana is averaging 30.1 points while the defense is giving up 22 points per game. This hasn’t been as dominant a team as last year, but this is still a very talented team. Under center for Louisiana is Levi Lewis and he has thrown for 1,427 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions. They have had three running backs who have rushed for at least 300 yards including Chris Smith who has rushed for 551 yards and seven touchdowns.
Texas State is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight meetings. Louisiana is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games overall. Texas State is 1-7 against the spread in their last eight meetings against Louisiana. The favorite is 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings.
Texas State has had issues covering spreads against Louisiana, but that is going to change in this game. Look for Texas State’s defense to step up, and although they might lose by double digits, but this is too many points Back Texas State to cover the spread.
