The UL-Monroe Warhawks will travel to Kidd Brewer Stadium to take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The UL-Monroe Warhawks won their 2nd straight game and improved to 4-3 on the season after defeating the South Alabama Jaguars, 41-31, this past Saturday. UL-Monroe was outstanding offensively against South Alabama and took the lead for good after an 81-yard TD reception by Will Derrick gave the Warhawks a 38-31 lead with 1:07 left in the 3rd quarter. UL-Monroe outgained South Alabama by a 555-409 margin and won the turnover battle by a 3-1 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Warhawks was QB Chandler Rogers who completed 25 of 35 passes for 369 yards & 4 TD.
On the season, UL-Monroe is averaging 21.4 ppg on 301.3 total yards per game (193.7 passing yds/g; 107.6 rushing yds/g). Offensively, UL-Monroe has been led by QB Chandler Rogers who has completed 62.7% of his passes for 959 yards, 8 TD, & 2 INT while also rushing for 253 yards. The top receiving threats for the Warhawks have been Boogie Knight (29 rec, 360 yards, TD), Zach Johnson (20 rec, 262 yards, 2 TD), Jared Sparks (21 rec, 207 yards, TD), & Will Derrick (11 rec, 206 yards, TD). Leading the way for the UL-Monroe backfield has been the duo of Andrew Henry who has 368 rushing yards & 3 TD on 84 carries.
Defensively, UL-Monroe is allowing their opponents to average 34.4 ppg on 450.1 total yards per game (281.7 passing yds/g; 168.4 rushing yds/g).
The Appalachian State Mountaineers improved to 5-2 on the season after upsetting the 14th ranked Costal Carolina Chanticleers, 30-27, on October 20th. Appalachian State was outstanding on the offensive end against the tough Costal Carolina defense and was able to pull off the victory on a 24-yard FG by Chandler Staton as time expired. Appalachian State lost the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin, however, outgained Costal Carolina by a 575-346 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Mountaineers was WR Malik Williams who had 10 receptions for 206 yards & 1 TD.
On the season, Appalachian State is averaging 31.3 ppg on 456.1 total yards per game (271.6 passing yds/g; 184.6 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Appalachian State has been led by the RB duo of Nate Noel (113 att, 635 yards, TD) & Camerun Peoples (74 att, 411 yards, 10 TD). QB Chase Brice has completed 66.2% of his passes for 1840 yards, 10 TD, & 5 INT. The top receiving threats for the Mountaineers have been Corey Sutton (40 rec, 605 yards, 4 TD), Malik Williams (37 rec, 548 yards, 4 TD), Thomas Hennigan (26 rec, 374 yards, TD), & Christian Wells (5 rec, 114 yards, TD).
Defensively, Appalachian State is allowing their opponents to average 24.0 ppg on 375.1 total yards per game (248.0 passing yds/g; 127.1 rushing yds/g).
The Warhawks are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning record, however, are just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog. The Mountaineers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 conference games and 1-5 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
Appalachian State is coming off a huge victory over Coastal Carolina, however, I think this is just driven up this line way to high against an UL-Monroe team that has been playing some great football as of late. UL-Monroe had been blown out in both road matchups this season (Kentucky, Coastal Carolina), however, this is a team that has been playing its best football recently which included an incredible 31-28 upset at home against Liberty. Appalachian State has had trouble against opposing offensive attacks this season which I do think Chandler Rogers can take advantage of and as I just expect a bit of a let down from the Mountaineers after such a big win last week, I think UL-Monroe can do enough with this many points to get a cover. Good Luck!
