The Indiana Hoosiers will travel to Maryland Stadium to take on the Maryland Terrapins this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Indiana Hoosiers lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 2-5 on the season after being defeated by the 5th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, 54-7, this past Saturday. Indiana was dominated on both ends of field by the Buckeyes and could not fight back after going into halftime trailing by a 44-7 margin. Indiana was outgained by Ohio State by a 539-128 margin and didn’t force a single turnover in the loss. Leading the way for the Hoosiers was WR Peyton Hendershot who had 5 receptions for 35 yards & 1 TD.
On the season, Indiana is averaging 20.1 ppg on 309.7 total yards per game (196.4 passing yds/g; 113.3 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Indiana has been led by RB Stephen Carr who has 452 rushing yards & 4 TD on 131 carries while also hauling in 13 receptions for 74 yards & 1 TD. QB Michael Penix Jr. (53.7 Comp %, 939 yards, 4 TD, & 7 INT) has missed the last two games after injuring his shoulder against Penn State and is questionable for this matchup. QB Jack Tuttle has completed 51.9% of his passes for 397 yards, 2 TD, & 3 INT filling in for Penix Jr. The top receiving threats for the Hoosiers have been Ty Fryfogle (34 rec, 367 yards, TD), Peyton Hendershot (29 rec, 341 yards, 2 TD), Miles Marshall (13 rec, 172 yards), & D.J. Matthews Jr. (13 rec, 165 yards).
Defensively, Indiana is allowing their opponents to average 30.7 ppg on 362.6 total yards per game (229.7 passing yds/g; 132.9 rushing yds/g).
The Maryland Terrapins lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 4-3 on the season after being defeated by the Minnesota Gophers, 34-16, this past Saturday. Maryland struggled on both ends of the field and could not fight back after 17 unanswered points by the Gophers gave Minnesota a 34-10 lead with 8:58 left in the 4th quarter. Maryland was outgained by Minnesota by a 451-268 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 1-0 margin. Leading the way for the Terrapins who completed 17 of 27 passes for 189 yards & 1 TD.
On the season, Maryland is averaging 28.0 ppg on 421.6 total yards per game (293.6 passing yds/g; 128.0 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Maryland has been led by QB Taulia Tagovailoa who has completed 71.1% of his passes for 1965 yards, 15 TD, & 8 INT. The top receivers for the Terrapins have been Rakim Jarrett (26 rec, 375 yards, 5 TD), Chigoziem Okonkwo (18 rec, 175 yards, 3 TD), & Darryl Jones (15 rec, 149 yards). Maryland has been hit hard with injuries at the WR position as they lost two of their top three receivers in Dontay Demus Jr. & Jeshaun Jones for the season. Leading the way for the Terrapins backfield has been Tayon Fleet-Davis who had 359 rushing yards & 5 TD on 63 carries.
Defensively, Maryland is allowing their opponents to average 29.7 ppg on 396.3 total yards per game (241.4 passing yds/g; 154.9 rushing yds/g).
The Hoosiers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games as a road underdog and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Terrapins are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games as a home favorite, however, are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 conference games.
Both Indiana and Maryland have struggled as of late, however, despite allowing 54 points to Ohio State last week, I like the matchup that the Indiana defense has against the Taulia Tagovailoa led Maryland offense. Maryland just hasn’t looked right on the offensive end since losing their top weapon in Dontay Demus Jr. and have had many issues with turnovers. Indiana should have some success offensively against a Maryland defense that has allowed an average of 50.3 ppg over their last 3 games and as I think this game is going to come down to the final possession, I think the play here is to take Indiana and the points. Good Luck!
