The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and Utah State Aggies face off on Saturday in a Mountain West showdown at Maverik Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2018, Utah State came away with the 56-17 victory.
Hawaii comes into this game with a 4-4 record overall, but the biggest issue has been the inconsistency. Three games ago, Hawaii beat Fresno State 27-24, but they followed that up by a 34-17 loss against Nevada. In the last game against New Mexico State, Hawaii scored 48 points, and cruised to the victory. Hawaii is averaging 29 points while the defense is giving up 31.8 points per game. The big question for Hawaii heading into this game is the status of starting quarterback Chevan Cordeiro who is dealing with a shoulder injury. He has missed the last two games and it’s unclear if he will be able to go in this game. If he can’t go it will be Brayden Schager who gets the start, and in the last game he threw for 219 yards.
On the other side of this matchup is Utah State who sit with a 5-2 record and they have won two games in a row. In the last game against Colorado State, they almost blew the game in the 4th quarter, but they were able to hold on for the two point victory. Utah State on the season is averaging 28.6 points while the defense is giving up 28.7 points per game. Under center for Utah State is Logan Bonner and he has thrown for 1,766 yards, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
Hawaii is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games. Utah State is 4-9 against the spread in their last 13 games overall. Hawaii is 0-5 against the spread in the last five meetings against Utah State. The favorite is 4-0 against the spread in the last four meetings.
Utah State is the better team but Hawaii is going to keep this game close. This is the same Utah State team that beat a terrible UNLV team by only four points. No matter who will start under center for Hawaii, they are going to find success against the Rainbow Warriors. Look for Hawaii to keep it close, and the Rainbow Warriors to cover the spread.
