The Nevada Wolf Pack and UNLV Rebels face off on Friday night in a Mountain West showdown at Mackay Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2020, Nevada came away with the 37-19 victory.
The UNLV Rebels have gotten off to a terrible start to the season losing each of their first seven games. In the last game against San Jose State, UNLV was competitive, but they still lost. UNLV gave up 14 points in the 4th quarter, and that was the difference as they were defeated by seven points. The Rebels are averaging 19.6 points while the defense is giving up 33.9 points per game. Under center for UNLV is Cameron Friel and he has thrown for 859 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions. Charles Williams has been the top back rushing for 719 yards and seven touchdowns. In this game if UNLV wants any chance to come away with the victory, they are going to need the defense to be better.
On the other side of this matchup is the Nevada Wolf Pack who sit with a 5-2 record overall but they are coming off a loss in their last game against Fresno State Nevada outscored Fresno State 16-6 in the 4th quarter, but it wasn’t enough as they were defeated by two points. Nevada is averaging 35.7 points while the defense is giving up 25 points. Under center for Nevada is Carson Strong and he has thrown for 2,466 yards, 20 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Toa Taua has been the top running game rushing for 453 yards and four touchdowns.
UNLV is 4-0-1 against the spread in their last five road games. Nevada is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games in October. The road team is 8-2 against the spread in the last eight meetings. The under is 8-2 in the last ten meetings in Nevada.
Nevada is no doubt the better team, but UNLV has been covering spreads the last month, and they are going to get the job done again in this game. Look for UNLV’s offense to find some success, and they will keep this one without 20. Back UNLV to cover the spread.
