The Tennessee Volunteers and Alabama Crimson Tide face off on Saturday in an SEC college football showdown at Bryant Denny Stadium. When these two teams faced off in October of 2020, Alabama won 48-17.
Many believed this was the year that Tennessee was turning the corner, but they currently sit with a 4-3 record and it looks like that might not be the case. In the last game against Ole Miss the defense actually wasn’t awful giving up only 31 points, but the offense could only manage 26 and that led to the victory. The Volunteers are averaging 39.3 points while the defense is giving up 22.8 points per game. Tennessee likes to play a fast pace, and they need the offense to have a big game. Under center for Tennessee is Hendon Hooker but he is dealing with an injury and it’s unclear if he will be able to go in this game. If he can’t go it will be Joe Milton who has thrown for 255 yards and a touchdown.
On the other side of this matchup is Alabama who have only one loss this season against Texas A&M. In the last game against Alabama, the offense was elite again scoring 49 points, and the defense gave up only nine points. The Crimson Tide is averaging 45 points while the defense is giving up 20.14 points per game. Bryce Young looks to be another great quarterback in a long line of great Crimson Tide quarterbacks. On the season he has thrown for 2.082 yards, 24 touchdowns, and three interceptions. In this game, Alabama needs to try and make this game a shootout, and attack the weak defense of the Volunteers.
Tennessee is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games as an underdog. Alabama is 10-2 against the spread in their last 12 home games. Tennessee is 1-4 against the spread in the last five meetings against Alabama. The road team is 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings.
These are both good offenses, and there is going to be no shortage of scoring in this one. Look for Alabama to score at least 45 points, and Tennessee will get to close to 30, and that will lead to the over cashing.
