Oklahoma faces Kansas on Saturday, October 23rd, at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium for a Week 8 Big 12 college football matchup.
Oklahoma is coming off a resounding win over its Big 12 rivals in TCU. Oklahoma defeated the Horned Frogs by the final score of 52-31 to not only win but also cover the spread. Oklahoma remains perfect with a 7-0 record overall and a 4-0 record in Big 12 play. Oklahoma started Caleb Williams at quarterback against TCU, and Williams was able to make the most of his opportunity. Williams had 295 passing yards and four passing touchdowns on 18/23 completions. Going forward, it will be interesting to see what Oklahoma does in terms of its current QB battle between Williams and Rattler. Oklahoma as a team has scored 43 points per game and has earned 473 total yards of offense per game as well. Defensively, things have been a bit shaky for the Sooners this year. Despite the perfect record so far this season, Oklahoma is allowing 25 points per game and more importantly, 31 points per game to Big 12 opponents.
Kansas has been the weakest link in the Big 12 for years now, and that has not changed this season. Kansas is winless in FBS play and its only win on the year was a close one over South Dakota out of the FCS. Kansas' defense is one of the worst in the country, allowing 43 points per game to opponents as well as 250 rushing yards per game. Opposing quarterbacks have a 70.9% completion percentage against Kansas this season and the defensive line has gotten virtually zero pressure on those quarterbacks. Kansas' offensive numbers are better than they were in 2020, as this years' Jayhawks team is scoring 17 points per game and earning 321 total yards of offense per contest as well.
Oklahoma is a 38.5-point favorite and the total is set at 66.5. There is no doubting that Oklahoma is going to win this game going away and more than likely have 35+ points by halftime, but I do also feel that Kansas can score a few touchdowns against a weak Sooner defense. If Kansas scores 14 points the Sooners would need 53 points to cover this spread, which to me seems a bit on the high side. This is not a game I am betting and I also refuse to watch it, but if I had to choose a side I would take the points with the Jayhawks.
