Kent State faces Ohio on Saturday, October 23rd at Peden Stadium for a Week 8 MAC college football matchup.
Kent State is coming off a 64-31 loss to Western Michigan in Week 7. We knew Kent State had some major problems on the defensive side of the ball, but allowing 64 points to any team is embarrassing at this point in the season. Kent State was dominated from start to finish of that game, allowing 648 total yards of offense, including a whopping 341 rushing yards. Kent State is now 3-4 on the year and 2-1 in MAC play. Kent State scheduled a very challenging non-conference schedule to prepare for MAC play, but putting behind this 33-point loss to WMU is not going to be easy. On the year, Kent State is scoring 28 points per game and allowing 34 points per game to its opposition. Kent State has earned 450 total yards of offense per game and has allowed 476 total yards per game as well.
Ohio has to be very disappointed after its most recent loss to Buffalo. The Bobcats jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter of that game and held a 21-10 lead into halftime. In the second half, Ohio was only able to score five points and Buffalo used a 17-point fourth quarter to take the lead and win the game 27-26. Ohio was projected big things season, but a 1-6 record that includes a loss to the FCS' Duquesne shows that this has been an awful year for Ohio. Ohio will get another shot at another tough offense in the MAC when it takes on this Kent State team. Ohio's strength on offense is running the ball, earning over 202 rushing yards per game. This bodes well for the Bobcats, as it was mentioned before that Kent State's run defense has been awful all year allowing over 210 rushing yards per game.
Kent State is a 5.5-point favorite and the total is set at 66.5. I think this is far too many points for Kent State to be laying on the road, especially when the Golden Flashes' defense has been so porous against the run. I will take the points with the home dog in Ohio here.
