The Tulane Green Wave lost their 4th straight game and dropped to 1-5 on the season after being defeated by the Houston Cougars, 40-22, on October 7th. Tulane fought back from an early 14-0 deficit to take a 22-17 lead early in the 3rd quarter, however, the offense struggle the rest of the way and Houston was able to pull away after scoring 24 unanswered points to close out the game. Tulane was outgained by Houston by a 435-308 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 1-0 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Green Wave was QB Michael Pratt who completed 20 of 30 passes for 214 yards & 2 TD’s.

On the season, Tulane is averaging 33.2 ppg on 398.7 total yards per game (258.5 passing yds/g; 140.2 rushing yds/g). The 21st ranked SMU Mustangs improved to 6-0 on the season after defeating the Navy Midshipmen, 31-24, on October 9th. SMU had all they could handle from Navy as they entered the 4th quarter tied at 21 all, however, the Mustangs was able to take the lead for good after a 22-yard TD reception by Jordan Kerley gave SMU a 28-21 with 8:19 left in the game. SMU lost the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin, however, did outgain Navy by a 404-241 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Mustangs was QB Tanner Mordecai who completed 30 of 40 passes for 324 yards, 2 TD, & 1 INT.

On the season, SMU is averaging 40.7 ppg on 511.0 total yards per game (315.8 passing yds/g; 195.2 rushing yds/g). Offensively, SMU has been led by QB Tanner Mordecai who has completed 70% of his passes for 1893 yards, 26 TD, & 7 INT. The top receivers for Mordecai and the Mustangs have been Danny Gray (30 rec, 469 yards, 7 TD), Rashee Rice (30 rec, 375 yards, 6 TD), Reggie Roberson Jr. (27 rec, 365 yards, 4 TD), Grant Calcaterra (19 rec, 234 yards, 3 TD), & Jordan Kerley (9 rec, 148 yards, 3 TD). Defensively, SMU is holding their opponents to an average of 22.2 ppg on 390.7 total yards per game (251.8 passing yds/g; 138.8 rushing yds/g).

The Green Wave are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games road games vs. a team with a winning home record.  The Mustangs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a home favorite and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.

Tulane certainly has some talent on the offensive end, and I think is better than what their record indicates, however, this is a team that has really struggled defensively as they come into this game ranked just 127th in scoring defense. SMU has one of the most talented receiving cores in all of College Football and with Tanner Mordecai having a solid season behind center SMU comes into this game ranked 10th in scoring offense & 14th in passing offense. I think Tulane will be able to put up some points against an SMU defense that I think isn’t as good as their stats show, however, as SMU is always solid at home and that I think they will be able to score at will against the Green Wave defense, I think SMU wins this one by at least two TD’s and covers this spread.
