The Florida Atlantic Owls will travel to Jerry Richardson Stadium to take on the Charlotte 49ers this Friday night in College Football action.
The Florida Atlantic Owls dropped to 3-3 on the season after being defeated by the UAB Blazers, 31-14, on October 9th. Florida Atlantic struggled with turnovers and could not fight back after a 100-yard pick-six by the Blazers Grayson Cash gave UAB a 24-14 lead late in the 3rd quarter. Florida Atlantic was outgained by UAB by a 306-287 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 4-1 margin. Leading the way for the Owls was WR LaJohntay Wester who had 5 receptions for 67 yards & 1 TD.
On the season, Florida Atlantic is averaging 29.7 ppg on 439.7 total yards per game (270.2 passing yds/g; 169.5 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Florida Atlantic has been led by QB N’Kosi Perry who has completed 60.4% of his passes for 1471 yards, 11 TD, & 4 INT while also rushing for 4 TD. The top receiving threats for the Owls have been LaJohntay Wester (31 rec, 347 yards, 3 TD), Je’Quan Burton (15 rec, 263 yards, 2 TD), Brandon Robinson (18 rec, 224 yards, TD), & John Mitchell (13 rec, 178 yards, 2 TD). Leading the way for the Florida Atlantic backfield has been the trio of Johnny Ford (56 att, 311 yards, 2 TD), Malcolm Davidson (48 att, 225 yards), & Kelvin Dean Jr. (15 rec, 111 yards, 2 TD).
Defensively, Florida Atlantic is holding their opponents to an average of 23.0 ppg on 376.2 total yards per game (173.5 passing yds/g; 202.7 rushing yds/g).
The Charlotte 49ers improved to 4-2 on the season after defeating the FIU Panthers, 45-33, on October 8th. Charlotte struggled defensively, however, had no trouble finding the scoreboard against the Panthers and was able to pull away after a 41-yard pick-six by the 49ers Jonathan Alexander gave Charlotte a 38-20 lead with just 5:45 left in the 4th quarter. Charlotte was outgained by FIU by a 538-378 margin, however, won the turnover battle by a 1-0 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the 49ers was QB Chris Reynolds who completed 22 of 28 passes for 199 yards & 4 TD.
On the season, Charlotte is averaging 29.8 ppg on 406.2 total yards per game (229.8 passing yds/g; 176.3 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Charlotte has been led by QB Chris Reynolds who has completed 65.2% of his passes for 1318 yards, 15 TD, & 3 INT while also rushing for 199 yards & 3 TD. The top receiving threats for the 49ers have been Grant DuBose (29 rec, 466 yards, 4 TD), Victor Tucker (31 rec, 432 yards, 2 TD), & Elijah Spencer (10 rec, 150 yards, 3 TD). Leading the way for the 49ers backfield has been the duo of Calvin Camp (61 att, 356 yards, 3 TD) & Shadrick Byrd (71 att, 295 yards, TD).
Defensively, Charlotte is allowing their opponents to average 25.7 ppg on 448.5 total yards per game (223.3 passing yds/g; 225.2 rushing yds/g).
The Owls are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS loss and 20-7 ATS in their last 27 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The 49ers are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall, however, are just 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up win.
Charlotte has looked impressive at times this season, however, this is an offense that is centered around Chris Reynolds and in my opinion, doesn’t have many impact players at the other skilled positions. Florida Atlantic played well against a good UAB team outside of the turnovers and is led by a solid defense that ranks 54th in scoring defense. Charlotte hasn’t forced many turnovers this season and as I think the Owls defense will do a good job keeping the Owls off the scoreboard, I think N’Kosi Perry and the Florida Atlantic offense does enough to win this one by more than a TD. Good Luck!
