The Texas Tech Red Raiders and Kansas Jayhawks face off on Saturday in a Big 12 college football showdown at KU Memorial Stadium. When these two teams faced off in December of 2020, Texas Tech won 16-13.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders come into this game with a 4-2 record overall but they are coming off a blowout loss. In the last game against TCU, Texas Tech gave up 52 points, and lost by 21 points. Texas Tech is averaging 34.8 points while the defense is giving up 34.3 points. Under center for Texas Tech is Henry Colombi and he has thrown for 942 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. Three different running backs have rushed for at least 200 yards and they have combined for 12 touchdowns.
On the other side of this matchup is the Kansas Jayhawks who sit with a 1-4 record overall and the only win was in Game 1 against South Dakota. The Jayhawks have also failed to cover all five spreads. In the last game against Iowa State, the defense really struggled giving up 59 points. Kansas is averaging 17.2 points while the defense is giving up 43.8 points per game. Jason Bean is still the starting quarterback for Kansas and he has thrown for 852 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions. He needs to play better, but if the defense can’t slow down the Red Raiders offense, this one will get ugly early.
Texas Tech is 13-3 against the spread in their last 16 games following a bye week. Kansas is 1-10 against the spread in their last 11 games following a conference win. The under is 5-2 in Texas Tech’s last seven road games. The over is 5-1 in the last six meetings in Kansas. The over is 7-0 in Kansas last seven games in October.
Kansas still hasn’t covered a spread yet this season, and it’s going to change in this game. Look for the Jayhawks offense to struggle to score and Texas Tech will score at least 42 points. This game is going to get ugly early with the Red Raiders covering the spread.
