The Rice Owls will travel to the Alamodome to take on the UTSA Roadrunners this Saturday night in College Football action.
The Rice Owls won their 2nd straight game and improved to 2-3 on the season after defeating the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, 4-19, on October 2nd. Rice did a great job creating turnovers against Southern Miss and was able to hold on for the victory after taking a 24-7 lead early in the 3rd quarter. Rice was outgained by Southern Miss by a 378-315 margin, however, the Owls won the turnover battle by a 4-0 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Owls was QB Jake Constantine who completed 16 of 22 passes for 192 yards & 2 TD’s.
On the season, Rice is averaging 19.2 ppg on 344.4 total yards per game (183.8 passing yds/g; 160.6 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Rice has been led by the RB duo of Jordan Myers (53 att, 244 yards, 5 TD) & Khalan Griffin (47 att, 226 yards, TD). QB Jake Constantine has completed 76.7% of his passes for 543 yards, 3 TD, & 1 INT. The top receiving threats for the Owls have been Jake Bailey (21 rec, 232 yards, TD), Cedric Patterson III (10 rec, 207 yards, TD), Jordan Myers (17 rec, 140 yards, TD), & Jack Bradley (10 rec, 93 yards).
Defensively, Rice is allowing their opponents to average 38.6 ppg on 443.0 total yards per game (249.6 passing yds/g; 193.4 rushing yds/g).
The UTSA Roadrunners improved to 6-0 on the season after defeating the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, 52-46, this past Saturday. In an exciting offensive battle, UTSA was able to hang on for the victory after a 43-yard TD reception by De’Corian Clark gave the Roadrunners a 52-43 lead with 6:39 left in the 4th quarter. UTSA was outgained by Western Kentucky by a 670-564 margin, however, did force 2 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Roadrunners was QB Frank Harris who has completed 28 of 38 passes for 349 yards, 6 TD’s & 1 INT.
On the season, UTSA is averaging 37.5 ppg on 453.5 total yards per game (287.0 passing yds/g; 166.5 rushing yds/g). Offensively, UTSA is led by RB Sincere McCormick who has rushed for 661 yards & 6 TD’s. QB Frank Harris has completed 69.8% of his passes for 1475 yards, 12 TD, & 3 INT while also rushing for 164 yards & 1 TD. The leading receivers for the Roadrunners have been Joshua Cephus (42 rec, 457 yards, 3 TD), Zakhari Franklin (37 rec, 447 yards, 4 TD), & De’Corian Clark (24 rec, 396 yards, 5 TD).
Defensively, UTSA is holding their opponents to an average of 22.3 ppg on 360.8 total yards per game (276.3 passing yds/g; 84.5 rushing yds/g).
The Owls are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up win, however, are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Roadrunners are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games.
Rice has been able to pick up a couple of wins, however, Texas Southern & Southern Miss aren’t the toughest of competition and I think the Owls represent more of the team that lost to Texas & Houston by a combined score of 102-7. UTSA has been solid on both ends of the field, and as I think their balanced offensive attack led by Frank Harris & Sincere McCormick will have success at home against the Owls 125th ranked scoring defense, I think UTSA does enough to cover this double-digit spread. Good Luck!
