The Pittsburgh Panthers will travel to Lane Stadium to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Pittsburgh Panthers won their 2nd straight game and improved to 4-1 on the season after defeating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 52-21, on October 2nd. The Pittsburgh offense had no trouble finding the scoreboard early and often against the Yellow Jackets and easily cruised to victory after going into halftime with a 42-14 lead. Pittsburgh outgained Georgia Tech by a 580-432 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin. Leading the way for the Panthers was QB Kenny Pickett who completed 23 of 36 passes for 389 yards & 4 TD’s.
On the season, Pittsburgh is averaging 52.4 ppg on 558.0 total yards per game (389.0 passing yds/g; 169.0 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Pittsburgh has been led by Kenny Pickett who has completed 72.0% of his passes for 1731 yards, 19 TD, & 1 INT while also rushing for 142 yards & 2 TD’s. The top receiving threats for Pickett and the Panthers have been Jordan Addison (29 rec, 524 yards, 9 TD), Taysir Mack (16 rec, 304 yards, 2 TD), Jared Wayne (15 rec, 221 yards), & Lucas Krull (15 rec, 193 yards, 5 TD). Leading the way for the Pittsburgh backfield has been the trio of Israel Abanikanda (48 att, 207 yards, 4 TD), Vincent Davis (56 att, 203 yards, 2 TD), & Rodney Hammond Jr. (32 att, 185 yards, 3 TD).
Defensively, Pittsburgh is holding their opponents to an average of 22.6 ppg on 338.4 total yards per game (236.2 passing yds/g; 102.2 rushing yds/g).
The Virginia Tech Hokies dropped to 3-2 on the season after being defeated by the 14th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 32-29, this past Saturday. Virginia Tech looked like they had the game in hand after taking a 29-21 lead with just 3:55 left in the 4th quarter, however, Notre Dame was able to quickly tie it on a 4-yard TD reception & two-point conversation and won the game with a 48-yard FG with just :17 seconds left in the game. Virginia Tech was outgained by Notre Dame by a 401-321 margin and committed 2 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Hokies was QB Braxton Burmeister who completed 15 of 30 passes for 184 yards & 1 INT while also rushing for 49 yards & 1 TD.
On the season, Virginia Tech is averaging 24.6 ppg on 330.2 total yards per game (190.0 passing yds/g; 140.2 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Virginia Tech has been led by QB Braxton Burmeister who has completed 58.8% of his passes for 930 yards, 5 TD, & 2 INT while also leading the Hokies in rushing with 182 yards & 2 TD’s on 54 carries. Defensively, Virginia Tech is holding their opponents to an average of 18.6 ppg on 341.4 total yards per game (196.4 passing yds/g; 145.0 rushing yds/g).
The Panthers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Hokies are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
Virginia Tech is always a tough team to play at Lane Stadium, however, I just don’t think the Hokies, and their 93rd ranked scoring offense has enough fire power to keep up with a Pittsburgh offense that has been the highest scoring offense in College Football this season. Pittsburgh defense is no push over, ranking 40th in total defense, and as I expect Pittsburgh to put up 35+ points in this one, I think they do enough to win this by a TD and cover this road spread. Good Luck!
