Ball State faces Eastern Michigan on Saturday, October 16th, at Rynearson Stadium for a MAC college football matchup.
Ball State is coming off its first conference win of the season over Western Michigan on the road. Ball State has pulled off back-to-back upset wins over Army and WMU, moving Ball State to 3-3 on the year and 1-1 in MAC play. Ball State's offense is still not where we thought it would be this season, scoring only 24 points per game and earning only 319 total yards of offense per contest. Ball State's quarterback, Drew Plitt, went 15/25 for 310 passing yards and four passing touchdowns last week, as it was his best game of the season for the Cardinals. The Ball State defense held a very good Western Michigan team to 20 points and less than 400 yards, which has to be viewed as a major win. Ball State will look to bring its momentum to Ypsilanti when it takes on these EMU Eagles.
Eastern Michigan was able to take down a tough Miami Ohio team by the final score of 13-12 last week. Eastern Michigan only managed 257 total yards of offense, but it was just enough for the important conference victory. Eastern Michigan is now 5-2 on the year and 1-1 in conference play. Eastern Michigan's offense has relied on quarterback Ben Bryant this season, and although he was not his best against Miami Ohio, he has had a very successful campaign on the year. Eastern Michigan is scoring 29 points per game on 357 total yards of offense this year, but the running game has struggled. Eastern Michigan has been held at 50 or fewer rushing yards three times this season, and twice in conference play.
Ball State is a 1.5-point favorite and the total is set at 55.5. A few weeks ago, I would be all over Eastern Michigan as a home dog in this spot. However, Ball State has figured things out and looks to be a contender in the MAC if it can keep it up. I have to ride with the hot hand here, and that is Drew Plitt and Ball State.
Ron’s Pick Ball State -1.5
