Wyoming faces Air Force on Saturday, October 9th, at Falcon Stadium for a Week 6 Mountain West college football matchup.
Wyoming had a bye week during Week 5 of the college football season. Two weeks ago, Wyoming took down Connecticut by the final score of 24-22. Despite the win, Wyoming has to be disappointed in its performance. UConn has been one of the weaker FBS teams in recent years and Wyoming was a 31-point favorite in that contest, not even coming close to covering the spread. Wyoming is a perfect 4-0 on the year but only 1-2-1 against the spread this season. Wyoming has scored 35 points per game but has only earned 368 yards per contest. Wyoming is +4 in the turnover battle this season, which could explain some of its success in the win column. Wyoming's defense has been strong this season, but it also has not faced too many tough offenses. Entering conference play, Wyoming could be in trouble because of its lack of a strong schedule.
Air Force is coming off a Week 5 win over New Mexico on the road, 38-10. Air Force dominated on the defensive side of that game, allowing only 226 yards and holding New Mexico to 47 rushing yards (2.4 yards per carry) in the win. Air Force is 4-1 on the year and 3-2 against the spread. Air Force has also not faced an incredibly tough schedule, but the Falcons have already seen two Mountain West opponents in Utah State and New Mexico. Air Force is running the ball really well this season, earning 5.5 yards per carry and an average of 367 rushing yards per game in its triple-option offense. The Air Force option offense has also thrown the ball more than some would expect, already attempting 34 passes on the season. Air Force's strong ground game could cause fits to a Wyoming team that lost to Air Force 20-6 the last time these teams faced each other.
Air Force is a 6-point favorite and the total is set at 46.5. I think Air Force is going to be able to control the tempo of this one, and that should naturally give the Falcons a huge advantage. Air Force should be ready for a Wyoming offense that has not blown opposing teams away. Wyoming scoring 24 points on one of the worst defenses in the country in UConn has me worried for the Cowboys here, so I will take Air Force and lay the points at home.
