The Virginia Cavaliers and Louisville Cardinals face off on Saturday in a Week 6 ACC showdown at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2020, Virginia won 31-17.
Virginia comes into this game with a 3-2 record overall and they are coming off an impressive win against the Miami Hurricanes. Virginia did let the Hurricanes back into the game in the second half, but a missed field goal as time expired was the difference. Two weeks ago against Wake Forest, Virginia lost 37-17. Virginia is averaging 34.2 points per game while the defense is giving up 27.6 points. Brennan Armstrong is under center for Virginia and he has thrown for 1,973 yards, and 14 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Three different players have rushed for at least 100 yards.
On the other side of this matchup is the Louisville Cardinals who have looked really good at times this season, but other times they have had issues. Coming into this game, Louisville has won two of their last three games, but the loss came in the last game against Wake Forest. The Cardinals outscored the Demon Deacons 17-10, but it wasn’t enough as they were defeated by three points. Louisville is averaging 32.2 points while the defense is giving up 28.2 points. The star of the show is Malik Cunningham who has thrown for 1,307 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions. He has also rushed for 309 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Virginia is 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games overall. Louisville is 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games overall. Virginia is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games against Louisville. The home team is 5-0 in the last five meetings.
I really don’t trust either of these teams, but I’m not comfortable laying any type of number with Louisville with how inconsistent they have been. Virginia’s defense stepped up against Miami in the last game, and their defense is going to help them find success against Louisville. Back Virginia against the spread.
