The Vanderbilt Commodores and Florida Gators face off on Saturday in a Week 6 SEC college football showdown at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. When these two faced off in 2020, Florida game away with the 38-17 victory.
The Vanderbilt Commodores record is improving, sitting with a 2-3 record, but the two wins have come over Colorado State and Connecticut, two of the worst teams in FBS. In the last game against UConn, they could only win by two points. They are averaging 16 points while their defense is giving up 35 points per game. Under center for Vanderbilt is Ken Seals who has thrown for 894 yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions. The Commodores are a good rushing team and Rocko Griffin and Re’Mahn Davis have both rushed for 200 yards.
On the other side of this matchup is the Florida Gators who sit with a 3-2 record but they are coming off a bad loss in their last game. The offense could only manage 13 points against Kentucky, which led to the seven-point defeat. Earlier this year, Florida was competitive against Alabama losing by only two points. They are currently averaging 31.4 points while their defense is giving up 19.8 points. Getting the start for Florida will be Emory Jones who has thrown for 871 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions. The offense really wasn’t impressive in the last game, and it’s going to need to be a whole lot better. If Jones can’t have a good game, maybe it’s time to make a quarterback change.
Vanderbilt is 5-1 against the spread in their last six road games. Florida is 3-7-1 against the spread in their last 11 games overall. The over is 12-4 in the last 16 meetings. The over is 4-1 in the last meetings in Florida.
Florida is the better team, and they are going to have no issue winning this game, but this is way too many points. Vanderbilt’s offense looked good in the last game, and they will reach at least 10 points in this game, which will be enough. Back Vanderbilt to cover the spread.
