The Old Dominion Monarchs will travel to Joan C. Edwards Stadium to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Old Dominion Monarchs lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 1-4 on the season after being defeated by the UTEP Miners, 28-21, this past Saturday. Old Dominion fought back from a 17-0 deficit to take a 21-20 lead late in the 3rd quarter, however, the Monarchs could not hold on for the victory after the Miners scored the game winning TD on a 3-yard TD with 6:59 left in the 4th quarter. Old Dominion was outgained by UTEP by a 338-282 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Monarchs was QB D.J. Mack Jr. who completed 20 of 34 passes for 194 yards, 1 TD, & 1 INT while also rushing for a TD.
On the season, Old Dominion is averaging 25.8 ppg on 352.0 total yards per game (178.6 passing yds/g; 173.4 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Old Dominion has been led by QB D.J. Leading the way for the Old Dominion backfield has been the duo of Elijah Davis (45 att, 279 yards, 2 TD) & Jon-Luke Peaker (33 att, 184 yards, TD).
Defensively, Old Dominion is allowing their opponents to average 31.4 ppg on 319.6 total yards per game (179.0 passing yds/g; 140.6 rushing yds/g).
The Marshall Thundering Herd lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 2-3 on the season after being defeated by the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, 34-28, this past Saturday. Marshall struggled defensively early against Middle Tennessee and could not fight all the way back after falling behind by a 28-7 margin late in the 2nd quarter. Marshall outgained Middle Tennessee by a 493-314 margin, however, committed 6 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Thundering Herd was RB Rasheen Ali who had 113 rushing yards & 3 TD’s on 19 carries.
On the season, Marshall is averaging 37.8 ppg on 540.8 total yards per game (369.4 passing yds/g; 171.4 rushing yds/g). The Monarchs are 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 conference games and just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 October games. The Thundering Herd are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 conference games.
Marshall struggled with turnovers in an upset loss against Middle Tennessee, however, this is a better team than what we saw last week and have been led by an explosive offense that ranks 18th in scoring offense & 4th in total offense. Old Dominion is not a very good football team that is going to struggle on both ends against the Thundering Herd and as the Monarchs have lost by an average of 22.3 ppg in their three road games this season, I think Marshall takes out some frustration against the Monarchs at home and covers this large spread. Good Luck.
