The New Mexico Lobos and San Diego State Aztecs face off on Saturday in a Week 6 Mountain West college football showdown at the StubHub Center. When these two teams faced off in 2018, San Diego State came away with the 31-23 victory.
The New Mexico Lobos come into this game with a 2-3 record overall and the last few games haven’t been great. In the last game against Air Force, the defense really struggled giving up 38 points and that led to the blowout defeat. The offense has been a big issue all season averaging 16.8 points per game. The defense hasn’t been horrible giving up 26.8 points but that isn’t good enough with the offense they have. Under center for New Mexico is Terry Wilson and he has thrown for 931 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions. Aaron Dumas and Bobby Cole have both rushed for over 200 yards.
On the other side of this matchup is the San Diego State Aztecs who have a 4-0 record and that includes wins over Arizona and Utah. In the last game against Towson, the offense was strong scoring 48 points and that led to the victory. The Aztecs are averaging 36.7 points while the defense is giving up 19 points. Jordan Brookshire has dealt with injuries but he is expected to get the start in this game. He has thrown for 259 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Greg Belt has been the top running back rushing 73 times for 409 yards and four touchdowns.
New Mexico is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games against teams with a winning record. San Diego State is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games overall. New Mexico is 12-3 in the last 15 meetings. The under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings.
New Mexico’s offense struggles and San Diego State is giving up only 19 points per game. I expect the Lobos are going to finish well under that 19 point number, and that is going to lead to the under cashing.
