The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will travel to Wallace Wade Stadium to take on the Duke Blue Devils this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets dropped to 2-3 on the season after being defeated by the Pittsburgh Panthers, 52-21, this past Saturday. Georgia Tech had no answers for Kenny Pickett and the Pittsburgh offensive attack and could not fight back after going into halftime trailing by a 42-14 margin. Georgia Tech was outgained by Pittsburgh by a 580-432 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets was QB Jeff Sims who completed 24 of 33 passes for 359 yards, 2 TD, & 2 INT while also rushing for 38 yards.
On the season, Georgia Tech is averaging 28.0 ppg on 393.0 total yards per game (221.4 passing yds/g; 171.6 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Georgia Tech has used both Jeff Sims (69.1 Comp % 494 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT; 26 att, 200 yards, 3 TD) & Jordan Yates (64.2 Comp %, 622 yards, 5 TD, 1 INT; 35 att, 43 yards, TD), however, Jeff Sims has seen the majority of action over the last two games and brings more of a duel-threat option for the Yellow Jackets. Leading the way for the Georgia Tech backfield has been the duo of Jahmyr Gibbs (63 att, 239 yards, TD; 15 rec, 219 yards) & Dontae Smith (27 att, 192 yards, 3 TD). The top receiving threats for the Yellow Jackets have been Malachi Carter (21 rec, 300 yards, TD), Kyric McGowan (16 rec, 244 yards, 3 TD), & Adonicas Sanders (8 rec, 77 yards).
Defensively, Georgia Tech is allowing their opponents to average 25.4 ppg on 358.8 total yards per game (215.6 passing yds/g; 143.2 rushing yds/g).
The Duke Blue Devils had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 3-2 on the season after being defeated by the North Carolina Tar Heels, 38-7, this past Saturday. Duke could get nothing going on the offensive end against the North Carolina defense and could not fight back after going into halftime trailing by a 24-0 margin. Duke was outgained by North Carolina by a 456-308 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin. Leading the way for the Blue Devils was WR Jalon Calhoun who had 6 receptions for 103 yards & 1 TD.
On the season, Duke is averaging 32.4 ppg on 497.2 total yards per game (274.6 passing yds/g; 222.6 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Duke has been led by RB Mataeo Durant who has rushed for 639 yards & 8 TD on 106 carries while also hauling in 12 receptions for 181 yards & 1 TD. QB Gunnar Holmberg has completed 71.9% of his passes for 1324 yards, 4 TD, & 3 INT while also rushing for 159 yards & 6 TD on 52 carries. The leading receivers for Holmberg and the Blue Devils have been Jake Bobo (40 rec, 410 yards), Jalon Calhoun (25 rec, 325 yards, 2 TD), & Darrell Harding Jr. (6 rec, 96 yards).
Defensively, Duke is allowing their opponents to average 28.4 ppg on 429.0 total yards per game (256.8 passing yds/g; 172.2 rushing yds/g).
The Yellow Jackets are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game, however, are just 4-11 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Blue Devils are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games, however, are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 conference games.
Georgia Tech has had an up and down season, but there is no question that they are the more talented team in this one. Duke comes into this game with a winning record, however, Duke hasn’t really beaten anyone that great and is coming off an embarrassing 31-point loss to a North Carolina team that Georgia Tech has already beaten. Georgia Tech has been solid defensively this season and as I think Jeff Sims and the Georgia Tech rushing attack will have some success in this one, I think the play here is to take Georgia Tech to cover this small road spread. Good Luck!
