One of the biggest games of the college football weekend is this SEC showdown between the Georgia Bulldogs and Auburn Tigers at Jordan-Hare Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2020, Georgia won 27-6.
The Georgia Bulldogs look like a team that can compete for the National Championship this year. The Bulldogs currently sit with a 5-0 perfect record and they are coming off a dominant win in their last game against Arkansas 37-0. Georgia scored 21 points in the 1st quarter, and never looked back as they cruised to the victory. The Bulldogs are averaging 41 points while their defense is giving up 4.6 points per game. The 41 points per game is 8th in football and the 4.6 points given up is 1st. Georgia has played both JT Daniels and Stetson Bennett this season and it’s unclear what guy will be under center in this game. Daniels has dealt with injuries and it’s unclear if he can go. Zamir White and James Cook have both rushed for over 200 yards.
On the other side of this matchup is the Auburn Tigers who have a 4-1 record and their only loss came against Penn State. In the last game against LSU, Auburn struggled most of the game, but they scored 14 points in the 4th quarter and that was enough to come away with the 24-19 victory. Quarterback Bo Nix had a big game completing 23 of his 44 passes for 255 yards and a touchdown. Auburn is averaging 40 points per game while their defense is giving up 16.2 points per game. Auburn’s offense struggled to start the last game and it’s a much tougher test in this game. The offense can’t get out to a slow start, or this is going to be a game that gets out of hand early.
Georgia is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games. Auburn is 14-6 against the spread in their last 20 home games. The favorite is 4-0 in the last four meetings played between the two teams. The under is 4-0 in the last four meetings.
Georgia’s defense is elite, and I still don’t trust Bo Nix. The Auburn offense had issues getting going against LSU, and they are going to struggle to score in this game. Look for Auburn to Georgia to score at least 30 points in this game, no matter who starts at quarterback, and the Bulldogs will cover the spread.
