The Stanford Cardinal will travel to Sun Devil Stadium to take on the 22nd ranked Arizona State Sun Devils this Friday night in College Football action.

The Stanford Cardinal improved to 3-2 on the season after upsetting the 3rd ranked Oregon Ducks, 31-24 (OT), this past Saturday. Stanford was able to force OT after a 2-yard TD reception by Elijah Higgins tied the game as time expired in regulation and was able to pull off the upset after Oregon could not answer Stanford’s TD to open up OT. Stanford was outgained by Oregon by a 414-354 margin, however, did win the turnover battle by a 1-0 margin. Leading the way for the Cardinal was QB Tanner McKee who completed 20 of 36 passes for 230 yards & 3 TD.

On the season, Stanford is averaging 29.0 ppg on 348.8 total yards per game (233.8 passing yds/g; 115.0 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Stanford has been led by QB Tanner McKee who has completed 64.5% of his passes for 1093 yards, 11 TD, & 0 INT. The top receiving threats for the Cardinal have been Elijah Higgins (23 rec, 271 yards, 3 TD), Brycen Tremayne (19 rec, 240 yards, 5 TD), John Humphreys (13 rec, 205 yards, TD), & Benjamin Yurosek (10 rec, 128 yards). Defensively, Stanford is allowing their opponents to average 26.8 ppg on 403.8 total yards per game (191.0 passing yds/g; 212.8 rushing yds/g).

The 22nd ranked Arizona State Sun Devils won their 2nd straight game and improved to 4-1 on the season after defeating the 20th ranked UCLA Bruins, 42-23, this past Saturday. Arizona State led by a 24-23 margin at halftime and easily pulled away in the 2nd half behind a strong defensive performance that kept the high-scoring Bruins off the scoreboard. Arizona State outgained UCLA by a 463-435 margin and forced 1 turnover in the victory. Leading the way for the Sun Devils was WR Ricky Pearsall who had 4 receptions for 132 yards & 2 TD’s.

Offensively, Arizona State has been led by the RB trio of Rachaad White (64 att, 331 yards, 8 TD), Daniyel Ngata (32 att, 216 yards, 3 TD), & DeaMonte Trayanum (22 att, 119 yards, 3 TD). The Cardinal are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 road games and 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall. The Sun Devils are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 conference games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

Stanford was able to pull off an incredible victory against Oregon, however, I’m expecting a letdown for the Cardinal. Stanford is decent on the defensive end overall, however, have struggled against opposing rushing attacks, ranking just 118th in CFB, which is going to be a major issue against a very solid Arizona State rushing attack. Arizona State has also been great defensively this season ranking 24th in scoring defense & 12th in total defense and as I just don’t see Stanford having much success offensively in a tough road environment , I think Arizona State wins this one by two TD’s and covers this spread. Good Luck!
