The Troy Trojans will travel to Williams-Brice Stadium to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.

The Troy Trojans dropped to 2-2 on the season after being defeated by the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, 29-16, this past Saturday. Troy struggled keeping putting up points against the Louisiana-Monroe defense and could not fight back after a 96-yard pick-six by the Warhawks Ja’Cquez Williams gave Louisiana-Monroe a 29-10 lead with 9:40 left in the 4th quarter. Troy outgained Louisiana-Monroe by a 378-290 margin and committed 1 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Trojans was QB Taylor Powell who completed 35 of 49 passes for 311 yards, 2 TD, & 1 INT.

On the season, Troy is averaging 26.3 ppg on 344.5 total yards per game (269.3 passing yds/g; 75.3 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Troy has been led by QB Taylor Powell who has completed 69.3% of his passes for 1008 yards, 7 TD, & 3 INT. The top receiving threats for the Trojans have been Luck Whittemore (14 rec, 252 yards, TD), Tez Johnson (24 rec, 250 yards, TD), Reggie Todd (12 rec, 161 yards), Jabre Barber (16 rec, 119 yards, TD), & Deyunkrea Lewis (5 rec, 72 yards, 2 TD). Leading the way for the Trojans backfield has been the trio of Kimani Vidal (55 att, 224 yards, 2 TD), B.J. Smith (23 att, 82 yards, 2 TD), & Jamontez Woods (18 att, 62 yards, 2 TD).

The South Carolina Gamecocks lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 2-2 on the season after being defeated by the Kentucky Wildcats, 16-10, this past Saturday. South Carolina struggled to get anything going on the offensive end against the Kentucky defense and could not fight back after a 27-yard FG by the Wildcats Matt Ruffolo gave Kentucky a 16-7 lead with just 4:26 left in the 4th quarter. South Carolina forced 3 Kentucky turnovers, however, was outgained by Kentucky by a 332-216 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Gamecocks was WR Jalen Brooks who had 4 receptions for 63 yards & 1 TD.

On the season, South Carolina is averaging 22.3 ppg on 321.3 total yards per game (195.5 passing yds/g; 125.8 rushing yds/g). Offensively, South Carolina has been led by their RB duo of ZaQuandre White (22 att, 167 yards, 1 TD) & Juju McDowell (28 att, 126 yards). QB Luke Doty has completed 58.8% of his passes for 311 yards, 2 TD, & 1 INT since replacing Zeb Noland (57.4 Comp %, 407 yards, 5 TD, 1 INT) who has been out since the Georgia game due to a hand injury. The top receiving threats for the Gamecocks have been Josh Vann (13 rec, 298 yards, 2 TD), Jalen Brooks (8 rec, 135 yards, TD), Jaheim Bell (4 rec, 61 yards, TD), & Dakereon Joyner (10 rec, 58 yards, TD).

Defensively, South Carolina is holding their opponents to an average of 18.3 ppg on 300.0 total yards per game (159.8 passing yds/g; 140.3 rushing yds/g).

The Trojans are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up loss and just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. The Gamecocks are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a home favorite, however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games.

If you like defense, this will be a good game to turn into as both these offenses have been known to struggled while their defense has been outstanding. South Carolina is obviously the bigger name here and will be at home, however, I just don’t see the Gamecocks having much success on the offensive end against a Troy defense that ranks 16th in scoring defense & 4th in total defense. Troy is going to have issues on the offense end, however, as I think this game stays a competitive low-scoring battle, I think the play here is to take Troy and the points. Good Luck!
