The Pitt Panthers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets face off in a Week 5 ACC college football showdown at Bobby Dodd Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2020, Pitt came away with the 34-20 victory.
The Pitt Panthers come into this game with a 3-1 record, but their loss was a bad one against Western Michigan two games ago. In that game, Western Michigan gave up 44 points. Earlier this season Pitt did beat Tennessee 41-34. Pitt on the season is averaging 52.5 points per game while their defense is giving up 23 points. Under center for Pitt is Kenny Pickett who has thrown for 1,342 yards, 15 touchdowns, and one interception. On the ground, it’s been a balanced attack with four different players rushing for at least 100 yards. The top rusher has been Vincent Davis who has put up 153 yards and two touchdowns.
On the other side of this matchup is the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets who have been inconsistent this season, but they sit with a 2-2 record. Georgia Tech has losses to Northern Illinois, and a close one to Clemson, but also have wins over North Carolina. In the last game, they held the Tar Heels to only 22 points, and two games ago they held Clemson to only 13. Georgia Tech is averaging 29.75 points per game while their defense is giving up 18.7 points. Georgia Tech’s quarterback Jeff Sims has dealt with injuries but looks to be back as the starter. Jordan Yates though is still getting playing time, and this is another game where he could see both guys. Jahmyr Gibbs has been the best player on the ground for Georgia Tech putting up 249 yards and a touchdown.
Pitt is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall. Georgia Tech is 3-7 against the spread in their last ten games following an against the spread loss. The road team is 6-2 against the spread in the last eight meetings. The under is 4-0 in the last four meetings.
Georgia Tech has been impressive each of the last two games, and they are going to find success again in this game. Georgia Tech gave up only 22 points to North Carolina in the last game, and they will find success slowing down Pitt. I am taking Georgia Tech getting the points, but throwing a few dollars on Georgia Tech also makes a lot of sense.
