The Old Dominion Monarchs will travel to the Sun Bowl to take on the UTEP Miners this Saturday night in College Football action.

The Old Dominion Monarchs lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 1-3 on the season after being defeated by the Buffalo Bulls, 35-34, this past Saturday. Old Dominion looked like they were going to fight all the way back from a 35-7 halftime deficit to force OT after a 19-yard TD reception by Zack Kuntz with just :19 seconds left to play, however, the Monarchs fell just short after the Monarchs missed the extra-point attempt. Old Dominion outgained Buffalo by a 433-297 margin, however, did lose the turnover battle by a 3-1 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Monarchs was QB D.J. Mack Jr. who completed 24 of 41 passes for 224 yards, 1 TD, & 1 INT while also rushing for 84 yards & 2 TD.

On the season, Old Dominion is averaging 27.0 ppg on 369.5 total yards per game (174.8 passing yds/g; 194.8 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Old Dominion has been led by QB D.J. UTEP outgained New Mexico by a 344-288 margin and won the turnover battle by a 2-1 margin in the victory. Defensively, UTEP is allowing their opponents to average 24.5 ppg on 318.8 total yards per game (203.0 passing yds/g; 115.8 rushing yds/g).

The Monarchs are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games as a road underdog, however, are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Miners are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall, however, are just 8-20 ATS in their last 28 home games.

Old Dominion suffered a tough loss against Buffalo, however, there were a lot of positives for the Monarchs to take from the game, especially on the offensive end after putting up 27 points in the 2nd half against Buffalo. UTEP has won 3 games which is a major feat for the Miners, however, this team isn’t as strong as their record indicates as New Mexico has been the toughest team UTEP has faced. I’m expecting this game to be a close, low-scoring game and as I just can’t trust UTEP to cover this many points, I think the play here is to take Old Dominion. Good Luck!
