The Nevada Wolf Pack and Boise State Broncos face off on Saturday in a Week 5 Mountain West college football showdown at Albertsons Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2018, Boise State won 31-27.
Nevada has played three games so far this season and they have a 2-1 record. Nevada opened up the season with a win over California, and followed that up with a victory over Idaho State. In the last game against Kansas State, the defense really struggled giving up 38 points Nevada is averaging 29.3 points while their defense is giving up 21.6 points. Under center for Nevada is Carson Strong who has thrown for 955 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions. Toa Taua has been the best running back rushing for 155 yards but he hasn’t found the end zone yet. In this game, Nevada needs the defense to be good in this game, and not have a repeat of the K-State game or they will have issues.
On the other side of this matchup is the Boise State Broncos who have a 2-2 record, but they have been competitive this year. Boise State lost to Oklahoma State by only a point and to UCF by five points. In the last game against Utah State, the defense was elite giving up only three points, and that led to the 24 point victory. Under center for Boise State is Hank Bachmeier and he has thrown for 1,132 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions. The rushing game for Boise State has been an issue with no player rushing for over 96 yards. Boise State is averaging 33 points per game while their defense is giving up 18.2 points.
Nevada is 7-0 against the spread in their last seven games as an underdog. Boise State is 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 home games. The underdog is 6-2 against the spread in the last eight meetings played between Nevada and Boise State. The under is 6-1 in the last seven meetings.
Boise State looks like the better team on paper, but there seems to be something special about this Nevada team. Carson Strong has been elite this season and he is going to have a big game against the Boise State defense. I’m not sure Nevada pulls this game out, but they will keep this game close. Back Nevada against the spread.
