Mississippi State faces Texas A&M on Saturday, October 2nd at Kyle Field for an SEC college football matchup.
Mississippi State is coming off a 28-25 loss to LSU in its last game at home in Week 4 of the season. Mississippi State has now lost two straight games after starting the season 2-0. Mississippi State led the total yard battle 487-343 against LSU, but the Bulldogs could not find consistent scoring and was a -1 in the turnover battle. Mississippi State's defense has played well this season, especially against the run. Mississippi State only allows an average of 71 rushing yards and keeps opposing teams to 2.8 yards per attempt on the year. Mississippi State's quarterback, Will Rogers, has completed 169 of 225 passes for 1,454 passing yards, 11 passing touchdowns, and two interceptions in a pass-heavy offense led by the passing wizard, head coach Mike Leach. Mississippi State will look for its first SEC win of the season against a tough Texas A&M team.
Texas A&M is also starting at a 0-1 in conference play after being upset by Arkansas last weekend by the final score of 20-10. Texas A&M's offense could not get much going in the loss, which was a surprise to many. Texas A&M only earned 272 total yards and struggled to pass the ball. Texas A&M's offense has only scored 24 points per game and has earned just under 400 total yards per game as well. Texas A&M's offense has looked nowhere near as lethal as it was last season with Kellen Mond at QB, and Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies will have to figure out their passing game in order to stay ranked in the Top-25 and be a contender in the SEC.
Texas A&M is a 7-point favorite and the total is set at 46. The way Texas A&M's offense has looked, I think Mississippi State is the type of team that can bring A&M troubles. I think this game is going to be decided by a field goal, but I do expect Texas A&M to prevail in the end. I will take the points with Mississippi State as the road dog.
