The Auburn Tigers and LSU Tigers face off on Saturday in a Week 5 SEC college football showdown at Tiger Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2020, Auburn won 48-11. 

Auburn currently sits with a 3-1 record overall and their only loss came against Penn State. In that game Auburn was competitive, but they lost by eight points. In the last game against Georgia State, Auburn won but it took 15 points in the 4th quarter to get that job done. The big question heading into this game for Auburn is who will start under center. Bo Nix has been inconsistent this season, and TJ Finley replaced him in the last game throwing for 97 yards and a touchdown. Whoever starts in this game, needs to take good care of the ball and not have turnovers. On defense this season, Auburn is giving up only 15.5 points and that will also be a key. 

On the other side of this matchup is the LSU Tigers who sit with a 3-1 record overall and the only loss came in their first game of the season against LSU. In the last game against Mississippi State, the offense wasn’t as strong scoring only 28 points, but it was still enough to win by three points. Under center for LSU is Max Johnson who has thrown for 1,114 yards, 15 touchdowns, and three interceptions. One area LSU hasn’t been great has been with the run game, and in this game, they need to have a more balanced attack. LSU is averaging 34.5 points per game while their defense is giving up 22.7 points. 

Auburn is 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games against teams with a winning record. LSU is 7-3 against the spread in their last ten home games. The home team is 9-3 against the spread in the last 12 meetings. The under is 4-1 in the last five meetings between the two teams. 

I expect both teams' defenses are going to take over in this game. Auburn’s defense looked good against Penn State, and they don’t really want to get into a shootout with LSU. The under is 4-1 in the last five meetings, and the under will cash.
