The Army Black Knights will travel to Scheumann Stadium to take on the Ball State Cardinals this Saturday night in College Football action.
The Army Black Knights improved to 4-0 on the season after defeating the Miami-OH RedHawks, 23-10, this past Saturday. Army was outstanding defensively against Miami-OH and easily pulled away after a 4-yard TD run by Anthony Adkins gave the Black Knights a 23-3 lead with 11:12 remaining in the 4th quarter. Army outgained Miami-OH by a 384-232 margin and didn’t commit a turnover in the victory. Leading the way for the Knights was QB Christian Anderson who although he didn’t complete a pass, rushed for 236 yards & 2 TD’s on 15 carries.
On the season, Army is averaging 39.0 ppg on 415.0 total yards per game (70.5 passing yds/g; 344.5 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Army is a run first team that has been led by QB Christian Anderson (58 att, 431 yards, 5 TD), RB Tyrell Robinson (19 att, 215 yards, 2 TD), RB Anthony Adkins (35 att, 162 yards, 3 TD), & RB Jakobi Buchanan (47 att, 149 yards, 4 TD). QB Christian Anderson has completed 8 of 15 passes for 187 yards & 3 TD’s. The top receiving threats for the Black Knights have been Braheam Murphy (2 rec, 72 yards, 2 TD), Tyrell Robinson (2 rec, 45 yards, TD), & Isaiah Alston (1 rec, 39 yards, TD).
Defensively, Army is holding their opponents to an average of 19.0 ppg on 277.8 total yards per game (219.3 passing yds/g; 58.5 rushing yds/g).
The Ball State Cardinals lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 1-3 on the season after being defeated by the Toledo Rockets, 22-12, this past Saturday. Ball Stat struggled offensively for the 2nd straight week and could not fight back after a 70-yard TD run by the Rockets Dequan Finn gave Toledo a 14-6 lead early in the 2nd quarter. Ball State was outgained by Toledo by a 444-312 margin and committed 1 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Cardinals was WR Justin Hall who had 7 receptions for 97 yards while also rushing for 64 yards on 5 carries.
On the season, Ball State is averaging 17.0 ppg on 317.8 total yards per game (186.5 passing yds/g; 131.3 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Ball State has been led by the RB duo of Carson Steele (37 att, 183 yards, 3 TD) & Will Jones (46 att, 178 yards, 2 TD). QB Drew Plitt has completed 61.2% of his passes for 614 yards, 2 TD, & 3 INT. The top receiving threats for the Cardinals have been Justin Hall (24 rec, 289 yards, 2 TD), Jayshon Jackson (19 rec, 183 yards), Cody Rudy (8 rec, 57 yards), & Yo’Heinz Tyler (9 rec, 54 yards).
Defensively, Ball State is allowing their opponents to average 33.0 ppg on 438.0 total yards per game (248.3 passing yds/g; 189.8 rushing yds/g).
The Black Knights are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and 6-2 ATS vs. a team with a losing record. The Cardinals are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games vs. Independent Teams, however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games.
Ball State came into this season with high expectations, however, the Cardinals have been disappointing on both sides of the ball this season as they come into this matchup ranked just 119th in scoring offense & 111th in scoring defense. Army has one of their best teams in recent memory led by a rushing attack that ranked 2nd in College Football and a defense that has been outstanding against the run, ranking 4th. Ball State is going to have another long day offensively in this one and as I think the Black Knights rushing attack will be able to find the end zone at least 3-4 times in this one, I think Army wins this one by double-digits and covers this spread. Good Luck!
