The Appalachian State Mountaineers will travel to Center Parc Stadium to take on the Georgia State Panthers this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers won their 2nd straight game and improved to 3-1 on the season after defeating the Marshall Thundering Herd, 31-30, this past Thursday night. Appalachian State trailed by a 30-21 margin heading into the 4th quarter, however, the Mountaineers were able to score 10 unanswered points and took the lead for good on a 45-yard FG by Chandler Staton with just 5:45 left in the game. Appalachian State outgained Marshall by a 566-397 margin and committed 2 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Mountaineers was Nate Noel who had 187 rushing yards on 20 carries.
On the season, Appalachian State is averaging 32.8 ppg on 476.3 total yards per game (270.5 passing yds/g; 205.8 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Appalachian State has been led by the RB duo of Nate Noel (68 att, 437 yards) & Camerun Peoples (67 att, 353 yards, 8 TD). QB Chase Brice has completed 67.2% of his passes for 1034 yards, 5 TD, & 3 INT. The top receiving threats for the Mountaineers have been Corey Sutton (28 rec, 367 yards, 2 TD), Thomas Hennigan (19 rec, 283 yards, TD), & Malik Williams (14 rec, 211 yards, 2 TD).
Defensively, Appalachian State is holding their opponents to an average of 21.0 ppg on 361.0 total yards per game (247.5 passing yds/g; 113.5 rushing yds/g).
The Georgia State Panthers dropped to 1-3 on the season after being defeated by the 23rd ranked Auburn Tigers, 34-24, this past Saturday. Georgia State held a 24-19 lead heading into the 4th quarter, however, could not hold on for the upset victory after a 10-yard TD reception by the Tigers Schedrick Jackson gave the Tigers the lead for good with just :45 seconds left in the game. Georgia State was outgained by Auburn by a 419-384 margin and committed 1 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Panthers was RB Tucker Gregg who had 150 rushing yards & 1 TD on 12 carries.
On the season, Georgia State is averaging 17.8 ppg on 313.8 total yards per game (118.8 passing yds/g; 195.0 rushing yds/g). Georgia State has been led by their rushing attack which features Tucker Gregg (41 att, 257 yards, TD), Destin Coates (36 att, 162 yards, TD), & Jamyest Williams (23 att, 131 yards, TD). QB Darren Grainger has completed 50.0% of his passes for 278 yards, 4 TD & 2 INT while also rushing for 169 yards on 40 carries. The top receiving threats for the Panthers have been Jamari Thrash (14 rec, 194 yards, 2 TD), Ja’Cyais Credle (5 rec, 74 yards, TD), & Roger Carter (7 rec, 73 yards, TD).
Defensively, Georgia State is allowing their opponents to average 36.3 ppg on 414.5 total yards per game (228.8 passing yds/g; 185.8 rushing yds/g).
The Mountaineers are 5-12 ATS in their last 17 games overall and just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games. The Panthers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
Appalachian State is a very good team that is balanced on both ends of the field, however, the Mountaineers have had trouble creating turnovers, coming into this game with a turnover margin of -2, and it was a bit concerning seeing Marshall put up 30 points against them at home. Georgia State had a rough start to their season, however, has looked much better as of late as they defeated a decent Charlotte team before almost upsetting Auburn on the road last weekend. Appalachian State is no doubt the better team, however, I think Georgia State is better than what they are getting credit for and as I think the Panthers rushing attack will have some success in this one, I think the Panthers do enough at home to at worst cover with the points. Good Luck!
