The South Florida Bulls and BYU Cougars face off on Saturday in a Week 4 college football showdown at LaVell Edwards Stadium. When these two teams faced off in 2019, South Florida won 27-23.
The South Florida Bulls have gotten out to a slow start to the season losing two of their first three games. South Florida lost against NC State and Florida, but they bounced back in a big way against Florida A&M. The offense was strong against the Rattlers scoring 38 points. Quarterback Timmy McClain had a big game throwing for 163 yards and a touchdown. Brian Battle also had a big game with 10 carries for 110 yards. The defense is giving up 34.67 points per game and if they want any chance to get the job done in this game, the defense is going to need to be a lot better.
On the other side of this matchup is the BYU Cougars who have played three Pac-12 teams to start the year, and have won each of them. In the last game against Arizona State, the defense was elite giving up only 17 points, and that led to the victory. Under center for BYU is Jaren Hall and he has thrown for 561 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions. On the ground, Tyler Allgeier is having a big year rushing for 265 yards and two touchdowns. BYU on the season is averaging 25.67 yards per game while their defense is giving up 16.67 points per game. In this game, BYU needs the defense to lock down and make life tough on South Florida.
South Florida is 4-0 against the spread in their last four games against teams with a winning record. BYU is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games against the AAC. The over is 7-1-1 in South Florida’s last nine games overall. The under is 6-0 in BYU’s last six games overall.
BYU’s defense is elite, and South Florida is going to struggle to get the offense going. I expect BYU is going to find some offensive success, but they aren’t going to be scoring more than 30 points in this game. Back the under.
