The Texas State Bobcats and Eastern Michigan Eagles face off on Saturday in a Week 4 college football showdown at Rynearson Stadium. This is the first meeting played between the two teams.
The Texas State Bobcats have struggled to start the season sitting with a 1-2 record overall. The only win by Texas State was against FIU and even in that game it took overtime to win 23-17. In the last game against Incarnate Word, Texas State scored 34 points, but their defense gave up 42 points. Under center for Texas State is Brady McBride and in the last game he completed 25 of his 41 passes for 278 yards and two touchdowns. On the season he has thrown for 599 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions. Running back Calvin Hill had 16 carries for 78 yards. In this game if Texas State wants to win it’s going to need to be the defense that needs to be better.
On the other side of this matchup is the Eastern Michigan Eagles who have won two of their first three games, with the only loss coming against Wisconsin in the second game. In the last game against UMass the defense wasn’t elite giving up 28 points, but their offense was strong scoring 42 points, and that led to the victory. Ben Bryant is the starting quarterback for Eastern Michigan and he has thrown for 447 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. Jawon Hamilton has been the best player for Eastern Michigan on the ground and he has put up 186 yards and two touchdowns.
Texas State is 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games as an underdog. Eastern Michigan is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games as a favorite. The under is 20-7 in Texas State’s last 27 road games. The over is 13-6-2 in Eastern Michigan’s last 21 games overall.
Eastern Michigan has issues covering spreads when they are favorites, and I don’t think it’s going to be any different in this game. Brady McBride looked good in his last start for Texas State and he will find enough success in this game to keep it close. Back Texas State to cover the spread.
