San Jose State faces Western Michigan on Saturday, September 25th, at Waldo Stadium for a Week 4 college football matchup.
San Jose State was able to pick up its second win of the season over Hawaii on the road in Week 3. San Jose State took down the Rainbow Warriors in a low-scoring affair, 17-13. San Jose State is now 2-1 on the year, as its only loss was to USC a few weeks back. San Jose State has not had the easiest of schedules when it comes to travel. Making the trip to Hawaii and then heading towards Kalamazoo, Michigan is difficult and it will be interesting to see how San Jose State responds. San Jose State's defense has been strong this season just as it was in 2020. San Jose State has allowed only 19 points per game and 345 total yards per contest as well. Offensively, the Spartans are led by quarterback, Nick Starkel. Starkel has been a bit inconsistent this season but has certainly racked up the passing yards. Starkel is 63 of 123 for 937 passing yards, six passing touchdowns, and four interceptions.
Western Michigan is coming off a huge upset for its program as the Broncos were able to take down the ACC's Pittsburgh on the road. Western Michigan started its season by being blown out to Michigan, 47-14, but the team has responded well and is now 2-1 on the season. Western Michigan's offense was explosive last week at Pitt, scoring almost at will and putting up 44 points on 517 total yards. Western Michigan has an experienced offense and that starts with the quarterback, Kaleb Eleby, who is having a strong campaign with no interceptions yet this season. Western Michigan's defense still has some work to do, as the Broncos are allowing 29 points per game but only 366 total yards per contest.
Western Michigan opens as a 3-point favorite and the total is set at 63.5. This is a very tough spot for San Jose State. Western Michigan has to be feeling good after the big upset win and although this could be a letdown spot, I think Western Michigan's experience is key for me. San Jose State has to take on an electric offense and will be in its third-straight road contest after just coming back from Hawaii last week. Give me Western Michigan and I will lay the points.
