The Navy Midshipmen and Houston Cougars face off on Saturday in a Week 4 college football showdown at TDECU Stadium, When these two teams faced off in 2020, Houston won 37-21.
The Navy Midshipmen have gotten out to a terrible start to the season losing their first two games of the year. Navy opened up the season losing to Marshall 49-7 and in the last game against Air Force they lost 23-3. Navy is a run first team but they haven’t gotten any success with the offense. Xavier Arline was the top rusher in the last game but he only had 16 carries for 31 yards .Navy is averaging 186.5 yards per game on the ground while only passing for 46.5 yards. In this game, if Navy wants to come away with the victory, they are going to need the offense to be a whole lot better. This isn’t a team that is made out to win a 10-9 type of game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Houston Cougars who lost their first game of the season against Texas Tech, but they bounced back in the last two games against Rice and Grambling State. The Cougars are averaging 36.67 points per game while their defense is giving up 15 points per game. The big thing heading into this game is the status of Clayton Tune. He left last game with an injury and it’s unclear if he can go in this game. If Tune can’t play it will be Ike Ogbogu and on the season he has thrown for 209 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. In this game for Houston, it’s going to be about the run defense slowing down Navy.
Navy is 13-5 against the spread in their last 18 non-conference games. Houston is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games overall. The over is 5-1 in the last six meetings. The favorite is 4-0 in the last four meetings played between Houston and Navy.
Navy’s offense has scored only ten points total in their first two games, and Houston’s defense is going to lock down in this game. Look for Houston to have a strong game, no matter who is under center, and Houston will cover this spread.
