The LSU Tigers and Mississippi State Bulldogs face off on Saturday in a Week 4 college football showdown at Davis Wade Stadium. When these two teams faced off in September of 2020, Mississippi State won 44-34.
The LSU Tigers opened up their season with a loss against LSU, but since that point they have won back to back games against McNeese State and Central Michigan. The offense has been strong for this team this season, but the defense was the big issue against UCLA. In the last game, LSU was able to defeat Central Michigan 49-21. Under center for LSU is Max Johnson and so far he has thrown for 863 yards, 11 touchdowns, and two interceptions. The big issue with the offense has been with the running game. Corey Kiner is the only player for LSU who has over 100 rushing yards.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs have a terrible taste in their mouth after they were defeated 31-29 at the hands of Memphis in their last game. There was a lot of talk about the officials but they were outscored 17-12 in the 4th quarter and that was the difference. Under center for Mississippi State is Will Rogers and he has thrown for 1,083 yards, eight touchdowns and one interceptions. The Bulldogs are another team that really doesn’t run the ball. Jo'Quavious Marks has been the top running back this year but he has only 83 yards on 22 attempts.
LSU is 4-1 against the spread in their last five conference games. Mississippi State is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall. The over is 8-1 in LSU’s last nine games in September. The under is 10-3 in Mississippi State’s last 13 home games.
This is one of the more interesting games on the slate, and we should see plenty of passing by each game. Mississippi State is coming off a loss, but I like what I have seen out of Rogers so far this season. The Bulldogs do have a better defense, and that will be the difference in this game. Back Mississippi State to cover the spread.
