The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and New Mexico State Aggies face off on Saturday in a Week 4 college football showdown at Aggie Memorial Stadium.Hawaii has won all eight of the previous matchups against New Mexico State.
Hawaii is one of the few teams to have played four games so far this year, but they only have one win. In the last game against San Jose State, the offense scored only 13 points, and for so many playmakers on that side of the ball, it’s unacceptable for such a poor output. Hawaii is averaging 24.75 points per game while their defense is giving up 35.25 points per game. Chevan Cordeiro is under center for Hawaii and he has thrown for 1,113, six touchdowns, and five interceptions. In this game, Hawaii is going to need the offense to be better, or they will have issues coming away with the win.
On the other side of this matchup is the New Mexico State Aggies who lost their first three games of the season, before beating South Carolina State in the last game. The offense scored 43 points in the last game, and that led to the victory. New Mexico State is averaging 20.25 points per game while their defense is giving up 31.75 points per game. Under center for New Mexico State is Dino Maldando and in the last game he threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns. Maldando clearly has the starting job now, and if they want to win this game, it’s going to need to be the offense that finds the success.
Hawaii is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games overall. New Mexico State is 4-0 against the spread in their last four games against the Mountain West. The over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings played between the two teams. The road team is 4-0 against the spread in the last four meetings.
Hawaii is the better team, but I still don’t trust their offense. Maldando looks like the real deal for New Mexico State, and he is going to find some offensive success. I don’t think New Mexico State wins this game, but they will cover the spread.
