The UNLV Rebels will travel to Bulldog Stadium (CA) to take on the 22nd ranked Fresno State Bulldogs this Friday night in College Football action.
The UNLV Rebels lost their 3-staright game and dropped to 0-3 on the season after being defeated by the 14th ranked Iowa State Cyclones, 48-3, this past Saturday night. UNLV didn’t have any answers for the Cyclones on either side of the field and could not fight back after Iowa State went into halftime with a 24-0 lead. UNLV was outgained by Iowa State by a 493-130 margin while each team committed 1 turnover. Leading the way for the Rebels was WR Giovanni Fauolo Sr. who had 4 receptions for 36 yards.
On the season, UNLV is averaging 15.3 ppg on 208.0 total yards per game (100.3 passing yds/g; 107.7 rushing yds/g). Offensively, UNLV has been led by the RB Charles Williams who had 254 yards & 2 TD’s on 60 carries. QB Doug Brumfield (42.3 Comp %, 177 yards, 1 INT; 15 att, 70 yards, 2 TD) missed last game due to an upper body injury. QB Cameron Friel didn’t have much success replacing Brumfield as he finished the game completing just 8 for 13 passes for 67 yards & 1 INT. The top receiving threats for the Rebels have been Kyle Williams (9 rec, 117 yards), Giovanni Fauolo Sr. (7 rec, 58 yards), Zyell Griffin (3 rec, 40 yards), & Steve Jenkins (5 rec, 35 yards).
Defensively, UNLV is allowing their opponents to average 40.0 ppg on 476.3 total yards per game (286.0 passing yds/g; 190.3 rushing yds/g).
The 22nd ranked Fresno State Bulldogs won their 2nd straight game and improved to 3-1 on the season after upsetting the 13th ranked UCLA Bruins, 40-37, this past Saturday. Fresno State looked like they were going to come up just short after a UCLA TD with 54 seconds left in the game gave the Bruins a 37-33 lead, however, Fresno State was able to get some big plays from QB Jack Haener and won the game in dramatic fashion with a 13-yard TD reception by Jalen Cropper with just 14 seconds left. Fresno State lost the turnover by a 3-2 margin, however, outgained UCLA by a 569-395 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was QB Jake Haener who completed 39 of 53 passes for 455 yards, 2 TD, & 1 INT.
On the season, Fresno State is averaging 43.0 ppg on 537.8 total yards per game (402.5 passing yds/g; 135.3 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Fresno State has been led by QB Jake Haener who has completed 73.6% of his passes for 1464 yards, 10 TD, & 1 INT. The top receiving threats for Haener and the Bulldogs have been Josh Kelly (19 rec, 373 yards, 2 TD), Jalen Cropper (29 rec, 347 yards, 4 TD), Keric Wheatfall (11 rec, 181 yards, TD), & Ronnie Rivers (13 rec, 154 yards, 1 TD). Leading the way for the Fresno State backfield has been Ronnie Rivers who has 298 yards & 3 TD on 62 carries.
Defensively, Fresno State is holding their opponents to an average of 19.5 ppg on 283.5 total yards per game (185.8 passing yds/g; 97.8 rushing yds/g).
The Rebels are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall, however, are just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS win. The Bulldogs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite and 19-9-1 ATS in their last 29 home games.
This is a bunch of points for Fresno State to cover, however, they have the offense to do so as we just saw the Bulldogs defeat UCLA and almost beat a very good Oregon team earlier this season. UNLV has had a tough few games against two good teams in Arizona State & Iowa State, however, it still very concerning to see the struggle they have had on the offensive end as they come in ranked 128th in College Football in total offense. UNLV has had trouble slowing down opposing passing attacks all season and between the fact that I think Fresno State will have no trouble putting up 45+ on the Rebels while also holding UNLV to 10 or less points, I’m taking the Bulldogs to cover this large home spread. Good Luck!
