The UAB Blazers will travel to Apogee Stadium to take on the North Texas Mean Green this Saturday night in College Football action.
The UAB Blazers dropped to just 1-1 on the season after being defeated by the 2nd ranked Georgia Bulldogs, 56-7, this past Saturday. UAB had no answers on either end of the field for the Bulldogs and could not fight back after going into halftime trailing by a 35-0 margin. Defensively, UAB is allowing their opponents to average 28.0 ppg on 345.5 total yards per game (231.0 passing yds/g; 114.5 rushing yds/g).
The North Texas Mean Green fell to 1-1 on the season after being defeated by the SMU Mustangs, 35-12, this past Saturday. North Texas had a hard time slowing down the SMU passing attack and could not fight back after a 19-yard TD reception by the Mustangs Ulysses Bentley IV gave SMU a 28-12 lead with 11:17 left in the 4th quarter. North Texas was outgained by SMU by a 537-506 margin, however, did win the turnover battle by a 4-2 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Mean Green was QB Jace Ruder who completed 32 of 51 passes for 366 yards, 1 TD, & 2 INT.
On the season, North Texas is averaging 28.0 ppg on 516.5 total yards per game (283.0 passing yds/g; 233.5 rushing yds/g). Offensively, North Texas has been led by RB DeAndre Torrey who had 315 rushing yards & 3 TD’s on 41 carries. QB Jace Ruder has completed 58.3 % of his passes for 501 yards, 2 TD, & 4 INT. Defensively, North Texas is allowing their opponents to average 24.5 ppg on 477.5 total yards per game (234.5 passing yds/g; 243.0 rushing yds/g).
The Blazers are 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 games following a straight up loss and 22-10-1 ATS in their last 33 conference games. The Mean Green are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and just 7-23 ATS in their last 30 games overall.
UAB is one of the better teams in the C-USA this season, however, if this is a lot of points for the Blazers to cover on the road against a North Texas team that despite getting blown out by SMU, had more success on the defense end against the Mustangs than I expected. North Texas has been impressive on the offensive end early this season with a balanced offensive attack, and although I don’t think the Mean Green will be able to get the victory here, I think they do enough with the points to cover. Good Luck!
