South Carolina faces Georgia on Saturday, September 18th, at Sanford Stadium for a Week 3 college football matchup.
South Carolina is off to a 2-0 season after beating Eastern Illinois and East Carolina. The win over East Carolina is a bit impressive as it was an AAC team on the road in which South Carolina opened as the underdog. South Carolina relied on its ground game in the win over East Carolina. Juju McDowell had 11 carries for 71 yards, making for 6.5 yards per attempt. Quarterback Zeb Noland was 13/24 for 214 yards, one passing touchdown, and one interception as well. Overall, South Carolina's defense has fared a lot better than the offense, holding its opponents to 109 and 263 total yards respectively. South Carolina will have its toughest test of the season in this contest with Georgia, and we will see just how much that defense holds up.
Georgia has to be really happy with the way it started the 2021 campaign. Georgia took down and upset #3 Clemson in its first game, 10-3, not allowing a single touchdown. Georgia then blew out UAB in a 56-7 win at home. Georgia is doing everything right so far this season. Georgia's defense has been exceptional, only allowing two rushing yards to Clemson and allowing under 200 total yards to both Clemson and UAB. Georgia's offense has fared well also, running for almost four yards per carry in its first two games. Georgia has featured three different quarterbacks already this season and Stetson Bennett leads with the way in passing yards and passing touchdowns. Georgia is ranked #2 in the nation, just below its SEC counterparts in Alabama. This could be the year for Kirby Smart and the Dawgs to take it all this season, but there is still plenty of work to do and that starts on Saturday in the SEC opener.
Georgia is a massive 31.5-point favorite and the total is set at 47.5. I would not be surprised to see Georgia pitch a shutout in this game, as its defense has been outstanding and has seen a lot better than South Carolina already this season. I do think South Carolina's defense is going to show up as well and be able to stop the Georgia passing game. I see two teams that rely on their ground games and their defenses here, so I will take the under.
