The SMU Mustangs will travel to Joe Aillet Stadium to take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The SMU Mustangs improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating the North Texas Mean Green, 35-12, this past Saturday. SMU led by just a 14-12 margin midway through the 3rd quarter, however, the Mustangs offense was solid down the stretch and the Mustangs pulled away for the victory after scoring 21 unanswered points to close out the game. SMU outgained North Texas by a 537-506 margin, however, did lose the turnover battle by a 4-2 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Mustangs was QB Tanner Mordecai who completed 21 of 33 passes for 312 yards, 4 TD, & 2 INT.
On the season, SMU is averaging 45.5 ppg on 513.5 total yards per game (315.5 passing yds/g; 198.0 rushing yds/g). Offensively, SMU has been led by QB Tanner Mordecai who has completed 71.4% of his passes for 628 yards, 11 TD, & 2 INT. The top receiving threats for Mordecai and the Mustangs have been Danny Gray (9 rec, 159 yards, 3 TD), Rashee Rice (6 rec, 134 yards, 2 TD), Reggie Roberson Jr (8 rec, 100 yards), & Grant Calcaterra (5 rec, 90 yards, 3 TD). Leading the way for the SMU backfield has been the duo of Ulysses Bentley IV (20 att, 189 yards, TD) & Tre Siggers (21 att, 97 yards).
Defensively, SMU is holding their opponents to an average of 10.5 ppg on 419.0 yards per game (298.5 passing yds/g; 120.5 rushing yds/g).
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs improved to 2-1 on the season after defeating the SE Louisiana Lions, 45-42, this past Saturday. Louisiana Tech had all they could handle from SE Louisiana and finally was able to pull away from the Bulldogs after a 21-yard TD reception by Tre Harris gave the Bulldogs a 45-35 lead with 9:51 left in the 4th quarter. Louisiana Tech was outgained by SE Louisiana by a 598-448 margin, however, did win the turnover battle by a 3-1 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was QB Austin Kendall who completed 19 of 27 passes for 217 yards, 1 TD, & 1 INT while also rushing for a TD.
On the season, Louisiana Tech is averaging 39.5 ppg on 408.5 total yards per game (259.0 passing yds/g; 149.5 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Louisiana Tech has been led by QB Austin Kendall who completed 61.9% of his passes for 486 yards, 3 TD, & 2 INT. Kendall is also the 2nd leading rusher for the Bulldogs as he has 78 rushing yards & 2 TD’s on 12 carries. In the backfield with Kendall, has been the rushing duo of Marcus Williams Jr. (31 att, 120 yards) & Greg Garner (11 att, 41 yards, 2 TD). The top receiving threats for the Bulldogs have been Bub Means (5 rec, 131 yards, 1 TD), Smoke Harris (8 rec, 97 yards, TD), & Tre Harris (6 rec, 79 yards, TD).
Defensively, Louisiana Tech is allowing their opponents to average 38.5 ppg on 515.5 total yards per game (432.5 passing yds/g; 83.0 rushing yds/g).
The Mustangs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and 21-6 ATS in their last 27 games in September. The Bulldogs are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games in September, however, are just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Louisiana Tech struggled against SE Louisiana defensively which is a bit concerning considering the high-powered SMU offense, however, Louisiana is no stranger of putting up points on their own end as they are averaging about 40.0 ppg and gave Mississippi State all they could handle in a 35-34 loss on the road to start their season. SMU is going to score some points in this one, but the Mustangs are generally not as strong on the road and as I think Louisiana Tech will be able to keep up with the Mustangs offense in this one, I think this is just too many points to pass up on with the Bulldogs.
