The Purdue Boilermakers will travel to Notre Dame Stadium to take on the 12th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.

The Purdue Boilermakers improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating the UConn Huskies, 49-0, this past Saturday. Purdue had no trouble taking care of business against UConn and easily cruised to victory after going into halftime with a 35-0 lead. Purdue outgained UConn by a 562-223 margin while also winning the turnover battle by a 1-0 margin. Purdue dominated the time of possession and gained 29 first downs in the victory. Leading the way for the Boilermakers was QB Jack Plummer who completed 16 of 20 passes for 245 yards & 4 TD’s.

On the season, Purdue is averaging 39.5 ppg on 481.5 total yards per game (344.0 passing yds/g; 137.5 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Purdue is led by QB Jack Plummer who has completed 736.8% of his passes for 558 yards & 6 TD’s. The top receiving threats for the Plummer and the Boilermakers have been David Bell (14 rec, 255 yards, 3 TD), Payne Durham (11 rec, 174 yards, 3 TD), & Jackson Anthrop (9 rec, 61 yards). Leading the way for the Purdue backfield has been the trio of Zander Horvath (23 att, 89 yards, TD), Dylan Downing (15 att, 78 yards), & King Doerue (17 att, 78 yards, TD).

Defensively, Purdue is holding their opponents to an average of 10.5 ppg o 293.0 total yards per game (192.0 passing yds/g; 101.0 rushing yds/g).

The 12th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating the Toledo Rockets, 32-29, this past Saturday. Notre Dame allowed Toledo to score 14 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to take a late 29-24 lead, however, the Fighting Irish were able to avoid the upset after an 18-yard TD reception by Michael Mayer gave Notre Dame the lead for good with just 1:09 left in the 4th quarter. Notre Dame outgained Toledo by a 449-353 margin, however, the Fighting Irish did lose the turnover battle by a 3-1 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Fighting Irish was QB Jack Coan who completed 21 of 33 passes for 239 yards, 2 TD, & 1 INT.

On the season, Notre Dame is averaging 36.5 ppg on 440.0 total yards per game (341.5 passing yds/g; 98.5 rushing yds/g) Offensively, Notre Dame has been led by QB Jack Coan who has competed 69.1% of his passes for 605 yards, 6 TD, & 2 INT. The top receiving threats for the Fighting Irish have been Michael Mayer (16 rec, 201 yards, 3 TD), Kevin Austin Jr. (8 rec, 154 yards, TD), & Braden Lenzy (4 rec, 72 yards). Leading the way for the Fighting Irish backfield is Kyren Williams who has 120 rushing yards & 1 TD on 34 carries.

Defensively, Notre Dame is allowing their opponents to average 33.5 ppg on 397.5 total yards per game (203.5 passing yds/g; 194.0 rushing yds/g).

The Boilermakers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning record and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 September games. The Fighting Irish are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning record, however, are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games.

Notre Dame is the better team on paper, however, I haven’t been overly impressed by this Fighting Irish team as they were lucky to get by Toledo and their OT win against Florida State certainly doesn’t look that impressive after the Seminoles lost to the FCS Jacksonville State Gamecocks this past weekend. Purdue’s defense will have some trouble with the Notre Dame offense, especially if Kyren Williams starts playing up to the level he can, however, between the fact that Notre Dame is allowing over 33 ppg and that I think Jack Plummer and the Boilermakers offense should be able to put up plenty of points in this one, I think the play here is to take Purdue and the points. Good Luck!
