The Minnesota Gophers will travel to Folsom Field to take on the Colorado Buffaloes this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers improved to 1-1 on the season after defeating the Miami-OH RedHawks, 31-26, this past Saturday. Minnesota went into halftime with a 21-3 lead and was able to hold on late after a 50-yard FG by Matthew Trickett gave the Golden Gophers a 31-20 lead with 6:15 left in the 4th quarter. Minnesota was outgained by Miami-OH by a 341-287 margin, however, did win the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Golden Gophers was RB Treyson Potts who had 178 rushing yards & 2 TD’s on 34 carries.
On the season, Minnesota is averaging 31.0 ppg on 347.5 total yards per game (158.5 passing yds/g; 189.0 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Minnesota was delt a major blow in their first game of the season against Ohio State after losing one of the best RB’s in all of College Football in Mohamed Ibrahim, who had 163 yards & 2 TD’s on 30 carries prior to getting injured. Replacing Ibrahim for the Golden Gophers will be Trey Potts who had 212 yards & 2 TD’s on 44 carries. QB Tanner Morgan has completed 52.4% of his passes for 317 yards & 3 TD. The top receiving threats for the Golden Gophers have been Dylan Wright (8 rec, 130 yards, 2 TD) & Daniel Jackson (7 rec, 88 yards, TD).
Defensively, Minnesota is allowing their opponents to average 35.5 ppg on 418.0 total yards per game (265.5 passing yds/g; 152.5 rushing yds/g).
The Colorado Buffaloes dropped to 1-1 on the season after being defeated by the 5th ranked Texas A&M Aggies, 10-7, this past Saturday. Colorado led for the majority of the game after an early 2-yard TD run by Jarek Broussard, however, the Buffaloes could not hang on for the upset victory after the Aggies took the lead for good on an 18-yard TD reception by Isaiah Spiller with just 2:41 left in the 4th quarter. Colorado was outgained by Texas A&M by a 288-260 margin while each team committed one turnover each. Leading the way for the Buffaloes was RB Jarek Broussard who had 51 rushing yards & 1 TD on 12 carries.
On the season, Colorado is averaging 231.0 ppg on 321.5 total yards per game (95.5 passing yds/g; 226.0 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Colorado has been led by the backfield duo of Jarek Broussard (27 att, 145 yards, 2 TD) & Alex Fontenot (20 att, 79 yards, TD). QB Brendon Lewis has completed 57.5% of his passes for 191 yards, 1 TD, & 1 INT. Lewis also is a threat with his legs as he is the 2nd leading rusher for the Buffaloes as he had 120 rushing yards on 17 carries. The Golden Gophers are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games as an underdog and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Buffaloes are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games on grass, however, are just 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games following a straight up loss.
Both teams like to run the football, however, I think both offenses are going to struggle as the strengths of both the Minnesota & Colorado defenses are against the run. Points I think are going to be hard to come by for both squads in this one and although this total already low, I think the play here is to take the under as I think the final score will be around 40-45 points. Good Luck!
