The Michigan State Spartans and Miami Hurricanes face off on Saturday in a Week 3 college football showdown at Hard Rock Stadium. These two teams have played four times before, and it was Miami that won all four of the games.
The Michigan State Spartans come into this game with a 2-0 record after beating Northwestern and Youngstown State. The offense for Michigan State has been impressive averaging 40 points per game through the first two games. Under center for Michigan State is Payton Thorne and he threw for 280 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Jordan Simmons also had a big game rushing 16 times for 121 yards. Thorne also rushed three times for 19 yards and a touchdown. Michigan State hasn’t given up any points in the 1st quarter so far this season, and if they want to win this game, the defense is going to need to be strong early.
On the other side of this matchup is the Miami Hurricanes who were dominated in their first game of the season against the Alabama Crimson Tide, but in the last game against Appalachian State, they bounced back winning by two points against Appalachian State. Even though Miami won their last game, they can’t feel great about how they looked against the Mountaineers. On the season quarterback D’Eriq King has thrown for 378 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. One big issue for Miami is they haven’t been able to have a consistent run game. Cam’ron Harris was the best rusher in the last game finishing with 37 yards on 12 carries.
Michigan State is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games as a road underdog. Miami is 1-6 against the spread in their last seven non-conference games. The over is 5-0 in Michigan State’s last five games overall. The under is 4-1 in Miami’s last 5 non-conference games.
I don’t trust the Miami offense, and they aren’t going to pull away in this game. This feels like a similar game like against Appalachian State, where they struggle to pull away. Michigan State is going to take good care of the football, and the Spartans will cover this spread.
